According to GizChina , iPhone users who are expecting a breakthrough in battery charging technology on the iPhone 17 may be disappointed. The latest leaked information shows that the wired charging speed of this product line may only be slightly upgraded to 35W, insignificant compared to the previous generation.

Apple 'lazy' to upgrade charging capacity for iPhone 17?

According to a new report from analyst Jeff Pu, Apple's upcoming iPhone 17 series may not have the significant improvements in charging speed that was expected. Specifically, all four versions including iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air (expected name), iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, are said to support wired charging with a maximum capacity of 35W.

iPhone 17 series may not bring breakthrough in charging speed

That’s only slightly better than the current iPhone 16 Pro models, which have been charging at roughly the same speed in real-world tests. Many users probably won’t notice a noticeable difference in charging times.

Previous independent tests on the iPhone 16 Pro have shown that wired charging speeds typically hover around 30W. The iPhone 16 Pro Max was once recorded as being able to 'peak' at 37W when using Apple's 140W USB-C charger, but the time it maintained this power level was not announced.

Meanwhile, PhoneArena discovered that the standard iPhone 16 can reach 38W of power during heavy tasks like gaming or running performance tests (benchmarks). However, under normal usage conditions, the charging speed is usually only around 20W.

Based on this information, it seems that the iPhone 17 will not bring a revolution in charging technology. A slight increase to 35W is unlikely to make a significant difference in the user experience.

Jeff Pu's report doesn't mention any changes to MagSafe wireless charging technology. Currently, the iPhone 16 models support MagSafe charging at a maximum power of 15W. Whether Apple will upgrade this technology on the iPhone 17 remains to be seen.

Apple is still in the process of finalizing the iPhone 17 product line. Fans of the 'bitten apple' products still need to wait for official information from the company in the near future.
