The newly launched iPhone 16 Pro Max has been given major camera upgrades by Apple and has become the best video recording smartphone today.
DxOMark has published a comprehensive review of the iPhone 16 Pro Max camera. Accordingly, the device achieved a total of 157 points, placing it in fourth place on the list of smartphones priced over $800, equipped with quality cameras.
The iPhone 16 Pro Max lags behind in terms of photography capabilities, behind rivals Huawei Pura 70 Ultra (163 points), Google Pixel 9 Pro XL (158 points) and Honor Magic 6 Pro (158 points).
However, when it comes to video recording capabilities, Apple's top-of-the-line smartphone scored the highest with 159 points, and was rated as excellent with consistent exposure and color accuracy across a wide range of conditions; lowest noise even when shooting in low light; and highest image stabilization.

In addition to the overall video quality that is top in the segment, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is also highly appreciated for its color reproduction, bright and vivid color range, and image color adjustment options; rich editing options; "extremely accurate" image preview ability and lag-free shooting time are also highly appreciated.
However, the iPhone 16 Pro Max was penalized in the test results related to the zoom function, which uses a Tetraprism lens system to increase magnification. The results showed inconsistencies between the 2x and 5x zoom ranges, with images "losing some detail".
The results from DxOMark continue to maintain the high rankings that Apple's camera systems have traditionally received for their new mobile devices. In 2023, the iPhone 15 Pro Max also had the second-best camera system in the world, with a score of 154.
