The Indonesian government made the above move after Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly decided to temporarily suspend the visa-free entry policy for tourists from 159 countries.
According to Anadolu news agency, the decision was made to address concerns related to public disorder and the risk of disease spread from countries not certified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as free of the disease.
After suspending its visa-free entry policy for 159 countries, Indonesia now only applies this policy to visitors from nine ASEAN member countries, including Brunei, the Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Visitors from Timor Leste also enjoy similar benefits.
Visitors from the above countries are allowed to stay in Indonesia for a maximum of 30 days, without extension, and must present a valid passport with at least 6 months validity, a return ticket or onward ticket at the point of entry.
