China's Hongqi H5 PHEV Revealed, Toyota Camry Rival

Recent reports from Chinese media indicate that the order books for the new 2025 Hongqi H5 PHEV have already begun. The PHEV is expected to go on sale next month. It will be Hongqi’s first model to be built on the HMP modular platform.

Compared to its regular gasoline-powered sibling, China's Hongqi H5 PHEV has a turbocharged 1.5-liter gasoline engine that produces 150 horsepower. The new model can travel 170 kilometers on electric power alone, while the combined gasoline-electric range is 1,600 kilometers, according to China's CLTC test cycle.

The car also supports 60kW DC fast charging. Although the upcoming Hongqi H5 PHEV will be based on the new HMP platform, it will still carry the same design language as its petrol-powered sibling.

As such, the H5 PHEV has Hongqi's signature front end, featuring a large grille with vertical slats flanked by a pair of slim LED headlights. A slim lower air intake completes the H5 PHEV's front end.

The rear of the H5 PHEV features a split-piece taillight design at each end, with the Hongqi emblem at the top. A pair of faux exhaust tips with chrome trim at each lower corner of the rear bumper give the H5 PHEV a distinctive look.

Viewed from the side, the Hongqi H5 PHEV has a traditional three-box sedan design, with some cleverly placed chrome trim details, breaking the monotony of the body.

The dimensions of the H5 PHEV are 4988/1875/1500 mm and the wheelbase is 2920 mm. These dimensions make the H5 PHEV a direct competitor to the Honda Accord/Toyota Camry.

Currently, the price of the Hongqi H5 PHEV 2025 has not been officially announced, but it is expected to be a notable model in the billion-people market this year.
