Accordingly, the statistical results up to 5:00 p.m. on March 29, 2024 are as follows:
- Total number of students wishing to continue studying at AISVN: 84.56%
- Total number of students wishing to transfer schools: 3.27%
- Total number of parents with other opinions: 5.1% (the vast majority of other opinions: Parents want to ensure the commitments in the contract signed with the school)
- Total number of parents who have not submitted the survey: 7.07%
At the same time, the school's letter to parents also informed that it is expected that the School Council, representatives of the leaders of agencies and departments including the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training and the City Police will coordinate to organize a meeting between the School Council and all parents to share solutions and plans to ensure the right to education for all students.
Previously, about 115 parents sent a collective petition to AISVN School and the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, requesting that students switch to online learning to complete the school year.
In the petition, parents said that students at AISVN International School will return to school on April 1 after spring break.
AISVN International School gave all students a spring break (from March 23 to 31) after teachers who were owed salaries quit their jobs en masse, causing teaching to be interrupted. The school also owes tens of billions of dong to parents and Ms. Nguyen Thi Ut Em, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of AISVN International School, was banned from leaving the country.
Up to this point, the school has not yet had any plan to ensure stable operations. Parents are very worried and do not know whether students can return to school normally in the coming days.
Therefore, in the petition, parents suggested that students study online to save costs. Talking to Thanh Nien Newspaper reporters, parents said that they could pay about 10-15 million VND/month to meet the need for online learning.
According to the report of AISVN International School sent to the Department of Education and Training, this school currently has 1,213 students from primary to high school. Parents believe that with experience in the Covid-19 pandemic, teachers and students can teach and learn online effectively. In addition, parents will coordinate with the school to operate legally, ensuring the rights of students.
According to parents, the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) has approved online learning. If schools are able to hold exams, students will still receive an IB diploma.
Parents hope that the online teaching proposal will help AISVN International School students complete the school year so that the school has time to restructure. "We just want to maintain this school because the learning environment is very good. Teachers and staff also want the school to remain open after the end of this school year, creating a healthy environment and welcoming investment sources, reasonable and appropriate solutions for parents, students and the school," the parents shared.
At a press conference on the socio-economic situation organized by the Propaganda Department of the City Party Committee and the Department of Information and Communications of Ho Chi Minh City on the afternoon of March 21, Ms. Le Thuy My Chau, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that on the same morning, when contacted, a group of parents requested to take over and operate the AISVN International School. The Department of Education and Training leader said that this was beyond their authority because the Department only ensures the teaching and learning rights of students.
Ms. Chau informed that when working with the Department of Education and Training on March 21, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ut Em, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of AISVN International School, committed to calling for investment funds to restructure the school and maintain educational activities during the spring break. Ms. Ut Em said she would take full responsibility before the law if she did not do so properly.
On March 27, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee reported to the Ministry of Education and Training about the AISVN International School incident, including banning Ms. Nguyen Thi Ut Em from leaving the country and conducting a comprehensive inspection of the school.
On March 29, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh signed Official Dispatch No. 28/CD-TTg on rectifying the activities of AISVN International School.
