(NLDO)- Many parents at Saigon Pearl International School (ISSP) received notice that the school will hold a parent meeting regarding the school's closure.
Since February 14, many parents of Saigon Pearl International School (ISSP) have received notice that the school will hold a parent meeting on February 15. The notice is related to the school closing and parents being supported to transfer schools...
In the school's announcement, it states: "...We will have a dedicated team to support parents in the process of transferring to the International School of Ho Chi Minh City (ISHCMC), or finding other international schools that suit the wishes of the families. This dedicated team will support all aspects of the transfer process, including admission, curriculum, and school life.
We will also do our best to prioritize the students' well-being, creating every opportunity for them to maintain the precious friendships they have built during their time at ISSP...".
ISSP School announces to stop accepting students
Speaking to a reporter from Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, Ms. CH, a parent whose child is studying at the preschool level at this school, said she was very surprised to receive such a notice. At the same time, when accessing the school's website, parents also received a notice that "The school is currently no longer accepting applications for admission."
Another parent whose child attends the school said that they have received information that the school will cease operations after the end of the 2024-2025 school year. The school’s students will be instructed to transfer to study at the International School of Ho Chi Minh City (ISHCMC) at both preschool and primary levels.
Regarding tuition fees, according to this parent, ISSP School announced that the tuition fees at ISHCMC are higher than at ISSP, but the school will support the difference in tuition fees (between the new place and the current place) for parents within 2 school years. "However, many parents feel very confused and bewildered. Because it is not only about tuition fees but also related to issues such as pick-up and drop-off, transportation, learning environment..." - a parent worried.
ISSP is one of the international schools with expensive tuition fees in Ho Chi Minh City.
According to the reporter's research, Saigon Pearl International School is one of three schools in the Cognita School system - UK. The two remaining international schools in Vietnam that are also in this system are ISHCMC and ISHCMC-American Academy.
According to the tuition fee list for the 2024-2025 school year published on the school's website, the lowest tuition fee (half-day tuition) for preschool children is more than 243 million VND/year, while the highest is the full-day tuition fee for 5th grade students at 572.5 million VND.
On February 15, a representative of the school's foreign affairs department confirmed the above incident.
This person confirmed that on February 14, the school had informed all parents, teachers and staff of ISSP about this. The reason for closing and ceasing operations at the end of the 2024-2025 school year is because the school cannot maintain the number of students needed to operate, as in recent years, the number of students entering the school each year has decreased.
Currently, the total number of students at both preschool and primary levels at the school is more than 200.
The school’s solution to this problem will be to propose transferring all of these students to ISHCMC, which is also part of the Cognita system and also teaches the IB program. In terms of higher tuition fees at ISHCMC, if parents agree to transfer students here, ISSP will maintain the school’s current tuition fees for 2 years, meaning that the difference in tuition fees will not be collected.
Regarding personnel settlement, for foreign teachers and staff, in case the labor contract ends in 2025, the school will not continue to sign the contract. Personnel whose labor contract expires in 2026 will still be retained to work until then.
For Vietnamese teachers and staff, the school will handle them in accordance with current legal regulations.
