Nguyen Khoi Bridge - Road over Te Canal, Ben Nghe Canal, connecting Districts 7, 4, 1, is expected to receive more than 3,700 billion VND investment from the city to reduce traffic congestion at the southern gateway.
This is one of 10 projects that the Department of Transport has just sent to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for consideration and submission to the City People's Council for approval of investment policy adjustments at the upcoming thematic meeting.
The Nguyen Khoi bridge and road project is proposed to be adjusted due to changes in scale, leading to an increase in total investment to VND3,725 billion, compared to the approved level of VND1,250 billion 7 years ago. If approved, the project is expected to start construction in the fourth quarter of 2024 and be completed in 3 years.

According to the adjusted pre-feasibility study report of the project, the total length of Nguyen Khoi bridge and road is nearly 5 km. Of which, the bridge section is about 2.5 km long, 6.5-25.5 m wide; the road section is more than 2.3 km long, 26.5-61.5 m wide.
The project will start from D1 Street (connecting Saigon University with Nguyen Van Linh Street and Him Lam residential area, District 7), then the main bridge will cross the Te Canal on an elevated viaduct along Nguyen Khoi Street. The bridge will continue to cross Ben Nghe Canal to connect to Vo Van Kiet Street, District 1, following two branches N7 and N8. Other branches will also be built connecting through District 4.
According to the above plan, Nguyen Khoi bridge - road will reduce traffic congestion for internal routes of District 4, share traffic pressure with routes from District 7, 8, Nha Be district to the city center such as Khanh Hoi - Kenh Te bridge - Nguyen Huu Tho, Nguyen Van Cu bridge - Duong Ba Trac.
Currently, traffic connections between the South and the center of Ho Chi Minh City are mainly via Nguyen Huu Tho - Kenh Te bridge and Tan Thuan - Nguyen Tat Thanh bridge. These routes are all seriously overloaded, leading to frequent traffic jams.
In addition to Nguyen Khoi bridge and road, at the upcoming session of the City People's Council, a series of other projects are expected to be approved for investment, including: Ring Road 2, section from Vo Nguyen Giap to Pham Van Dong (total capital of more than 4,500 billion VND); upgrading and expanding Nguyen Thi Dinh road, section from Giong Ong To bridge to My Thuy roundabout (nearly 2,100 billion VND); expanding Do Xuan Hop road (862 billion); expanding Vinh Loc road (Binh Chanh district), total capital of more than 4,300 billion VND...
