Dalat flower region recorded that imported varieties are no longer the main trend of Tet flowers this year, instead, native varieties using high technology are being used.

Dalat's Tet flower products have been revealed quite clearly when there are only about 2 weeks left until the peak of Tet flower sales.
Old bottle, new wine
In Hiep An commune (Duc Trong district) - the largest gladiolus growing area in Lam Dong, farmers are busy fertilizing flowers for the upcoming harvest.
Unlike famous flower regions in Da Lat such as Van Thanh and Ha Dong, which grow flowers all year round, Hiep An farmers only grow gladiolus at the end of the year. This year, during the Tet flower season, Hiep An has many people from other regions coming here to rent land for a short term to grow gladiolus.
Mr. Lai The Hung, vice president of the Dalat Flower Association, said: "Potted flowers have become a trend for Tet flower shopping due to the increase in the number of residents staying in big cities compared to previous years. This group of customers mostly own small apartments, so they need multi-purpose flowers: to decorate the living room table, for worship, or to put on the balcony of the rooms...
This year, the output of potted and cut flowers for Tet is quite balanced. Whether potted or cut flowers, there is an interesting story because this year imported flower varieties are not the choice of flower players or producers. Renewing familiar flower varieties has become the trend of Tet flowers this year."
According to the Economic Department of Da Lat City, peach blossoms, American apricots, irises, lilies, mandevillas, lavender, South African orchids, astilbes, lilies... belonging to temperate flower species with soft prices, under 250,000 VND/pot are imported and offered for sale but not as much as previous years.
The difficulty of importing flower varieties has encouraged gardeners and farm owners to invest in flower varieties that are very familiar, even classified as "homegrown" such as dahlias, begonias, lilies, banana flowers, sedums, chrysanthemums...
The investment can be recognized when the grower has invested from the seed stage so that the tree trunk is smaller than the original variety. The way to make the product suitable for selling to the large market is residents with average or good income who own houses and small apartments.
Although the flowers are old varieties, most of them are technically enhanced to make them bloom bigger and have different colors compared to the old varieties. Even in one pot, many flowers have different colors...
Mr. Nguyen Duc Dat (farmer in Ward 7, Da Lat) said: "After investing in renewing old flower varieties, we found this to be an interesting way because the way the product is built has the implication of recalling the old Tet. Although the varieties are familiar, there is still something strange in the flower color and size to create surprise."
According to the Department of Industry and Trade of Lam Dong province, some businesses pursuing the imported seed program are also switching to domestic seeds but investing in applying new planting technology to have new products.
This unit said that kala lily, a popular imported European variety in the past 4 years, is not being grown this year. Tulips for Tet this year also do not appear much in flower markets.
High-tech potted flowers for early Tet season
High-end potted flowers from Da Lat have started to enter the Tet season. Buying and selling is bustling even though there are still more than 3 weeks left until the Lunar New Year of At Ty 2025.
The Da Lat flower region has had its first shipments, marking the beginning of the peak of the Tet flower market. Currently, dozens of workers at the Ysa Orchid Farm Da Ron (Da Ron commune, Don Duong district) are busy packing and transporting... to meet the trucks carrying flowers to the northern provinces.
According to Mr. Ha So Rem (technical staff of Ysa Orchid Farm Da Ron), currently every day the whole farm packs about 150 boxes (20 pots/box) of various types of Phalaenopsis flowers to ship to the province for consumption.
During peak season (December 23), the number of packaged flowers will double, and workers will work overtime until 11pm. Currently, the farm has 400,000 blooming Phalaenopsis orchid pots ready to be sold to partners as far away as Hanoi, Da Nang...
Duc Trong and Don Duong districts (belonging to Da Lat flower region) are the localities in Lam Dong with the most concentration of Phalaenopsis orchid farms such as: Truong Hoang Company, Ysa Orchid Farm, Apolo Company, Thanh Ha Orchid Company...
In addition to traditional flower varieties, this year many units imported new flower varieties, mini Phalaenopsis varieties (old style but small size) to meet the increasingly diverse needs of the market.
According to some units, this year's prolonged rainy weather and little sunshine have also affected the growth of flower plants to some extent. However, thanks to the application of technical and high-tech measures such as adjusting the amount of light from the sun, using air-conditioning fans, and ventilating greenhouses, etc., phalaenopsis blooms evenly and beautifully, ensuring a supply source for the market.
Dalat flowers bloom long and stay beautiful thanks to high technology
According to Mr. Lai The Hung, in this year's Lunar New Year flower crop, the area and output increased by about 10% compared to last year. Statistics show that the entire province has about 750 hectares of potted flowers of all kinds, with the ability to supply the market with hundreds of millions of pots this year.
Of which, orchids alone (mainly high-class phalaenopsis orchids) have about 100 hectares with about 15 million pots of all kinds.
"The application of high-tech care helps flowers last longer, and gardeners can supply the market early in December and last until after the Lunar New Year," said Mr. Hung.
