On the occasion of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's attendance at the ASEAN Future Forum 2025 in Hanoi on February 25-26, VNA reporters in Kuala Lumpur interviewed Vietnamese Ambassador to Malaysia Dinh Ngoc Linh about the significance and importance of the Forum, as well as the prospects of Vietnam-Malaysia relations.

According to Ambassador Dinh Ngoc Linh, the ASEAN Future Forum is an important initiative of Vietnam proposed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and announced by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at the 43rd Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Indonesia in September 2023.

This is a multi-stakeholder, multi-dimensional platform to promote open and constructive dialogues on the future of ASEAN. The forum provides an opportunity for leaders, experts, researchers, businesses and partners to exchange ideas, propose new initiatives to shape ASEAN’s development as well as strengthen cooperation within the region and with international partners.

With the theme "Building a united, inclusive and resilient ASEAN in a changing world," the Forum is one of Vietnam's largest multilateral events in 2025, clearly demonstrating Vietnam's "far-sighted vision", reflecting its proactiveness and positivity in regional and global cooperation.

While the 2024 Forum focused on economic and sustainable development issues in ASEAN, this year's event aims to build a united, inclusive and adaptive ASEAN in a volatile and unpredictable global environment.

According to Ambassador Dinh Ngoc Linh, Vietnam hopes that the event will be an important, annual and open forum, helping ASEAN countries, partner countries, international and regional organizations, experts and researchers to exchange and find practical solutions to promote regional development in the context of many changes in the world.

The 2025 Forum also demonstrates ASEAN’s proactive role in building a united, inclusive and resilient community, ensuring sustainable growth, regional security and promoting cooperation with international partners. At the same time, this event is also an opportunity for Vietnam to affirm its role and responsibility in the region, continuing to make positive contributions to the common development of ASEAN.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's attendance and speech at the ASEAN Future Forum as the head of state of the country holding the ASEAN Chair 2025 is significant for the Forum as well as Malaysia's role in the ASEAN Chairmanship 2025.

Ambassador Dinh Ngoc Linh emphasized that this demonstrates Malaysia's respect and appreciation for Vietnam's initiative, as well as the Forum's role in shaping the future of ASEAN.

Besides, the presence of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim also contributes to deepening the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Malaysia, not only within the framework of ASEAN but also in many other areas of bilateral cooperation.

In addition, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's working trip is also the beginning of a pivotal year in implementing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Malaysia, which was upgraded at the end of 2024. This is an important step forward, affirming the commitment of the two countries in substantively implementing bilateral relations at new levels, expanding cooperation in many fields, and actively contributing to peace, stability and development of the region.

2025 is a pivotal year for implementing the Vietnam-Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, bringing the relationship between the two countries into depth, substance, comprehensiveness and to a new level.

To do this, according to Ambassador Dinh Ngoc Linh, the two countries must remove barriers and obstacles, and unlock development resources for businesses to accelerate in the new period.

2025 is also an important year, concretizing the tasks, solutions for foreign affairs and international integration according to Resolution 01/NQ-CP of the Government dated January 8, 2025 in accordance with the functions and tasks of representative agencies according to the motto: Discipline and responsibility, Proactive and timely, Streamlined and effective, Accelerated breakthrough.

Vietnam will also have many major celebrations in 2025 such as the 80th anniversary of the founding of the country; the 30th anniversary of Vietnam joining ASEAN...

In addition, 2025 is the year Malaysia assumes the ASEAN chairmanship, so in addition to the general tasks assigned by the Party and State, the Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia prioritizes serving well the visits of high-ranking Vietnamese leaders in Malaysia, supporting the activities of delegations of leaders of ministries and branches in Malaysia.

In addition, the Embassy also prepares to organize business exchange forums, Vietnamese goods weeks, exhibitions, trade promotions and cultural exchange activities...

Ambassador Dinh Ngoc Linh hopes that with such exciting events, the Vietnam-Malaysia relationship will develop strongly in the coming years./.
