On the evening of October 27, the Vietnam U17 team drew 1-1 with Yemen U17, ending the campaign in Group I of the Asian U17 qualifiers with 2nd place overall.
Vietnam U17 team has 4 points and a +2 secondary index compared to other second-placed teams. In particular, the draw with Kyrgyzstan U17 is not counted as the result because this team is at the bottom of the table. Based on the situation of the remaining groups, Vietnam U17 is definitely in the group of 5 second-placed teams with the best results and will qualify for the 2025 AFC U17 Championship finals.
Despite achieving the set goal, many spectators were dissatisfied with the "sleepy" way U17 Vietnam played in the last match. Many fans at Viet Tri Stadium also left before half of the second half had passed.
After the match, coach Cristiano Roland said the final result was the most important thing: "Our goal is to qualify. That's the most important thing.
I am very happy and pleased. From the first day, I always believed in the players and they really deserved this result. Today all the players tried their best. They understood what they needed to do and controlled the game. The most important thing is that U17 Vietnam has reached the final round."
Captain Viet Anh celebrates the achievement of U17 Vietnam.
Coach Cristiano Roland's U17 Vietnam team consists of the majority of the U16 Vietnam team, which has just participated in two U16 Southeast Asian Championships (fourth place) and the Peace Cup (second place). After positive results in the middle of the year, especially at the Peace Cup, fans have high expectations for U17 Vietnam and have shown some bright spots.
After two matches against Myanmar U17 and Kyrgyzstan U17, and half a match against Yemen U17, Coach Roland's players played with confidence and courage. The Brazilian coach said the players still need to try harder, because no one will be sure to be called up to the national team in the training session for the AFC U17 Championship.
"Players have to practice every day, whether at the club or the national team. In my position, I can only choose the best players at each time. The important thing is that they show adaptability, eagerness to learn, and diligence. Of course, every day will have variables, the important thing is how we adapt to adapt and have the best preparation. I think the players all have their own good points," coach Roland commented on the U17 Vietnam players.
Coach Roland thanks the fans.
He also did not forget to thank the Vietnamese audience, especially in Phu Tho, who took the trouble to come to watch the match despite the stormy weather: "I want to thank the audience for coming to cheer for U17 Vietnam. Every match in this tournament has a lot of fans. I feel the audience's affection for the team and I really appreciate that. When coming to Phu Tho, the team was also given the best conditions by the locality, contributing to helping the team achieve today's achievements."
