On the morning of June 27, the image of a man wearing a black shirt, a white mourning scarf draped over his shoulders, taking his son to Thanh Sen High School (Ha Tinh City, Ha Tinh Province) to begin the graduation exam moved many people.
After his son entered the exam room, with a pensive look on his face, he sat on the sidewalk with his slippers and waited for his son for 120 minutes. Mr. Dung said that his son is Vo Nguyen Hoang (a 12D student at Thanh Sen High School). A week before the exam, his wife suddenly passed away due to a serious illness.
To keep his son from being affected psychologically, since the family's sad incident, Mr. Dung has always encouraged his son to try his best so that the graduation exam goes well.
“I took my child to the exam site and wished him good luck. I hope he gets a high score as a gift for his late mother,” Mr. Dung confided.
After finishing the Literature exam , Mr. Dung took his child home to rest so he could start the Math exam that afternoon.
Speaking to the press, Mr. Hoang Minh Dien, Principal of Thanh Sen High School, said that Vo Nguyen Hoang is a 12D student, well-behaved, and has good academic performance.
“A week before the high school graduation exam, her mother unfortunately passed away. After receiving the information, the school board and delegation visited and expressed their condolences to her family. We hope she will overcome the great loss to complete this exam well,” said Mr. Dien.
Father rides 'crappy' bike to take his child to exam
On June 27, on his bicycle, Mr. Nguyen Huu Minh (residing in Hoa An ward, Cam Le district, Da Nang city) also attracted attention when he took his daughter from his house on Ton Dan street to the exam site of Cam Le High School.
On the busy streets with motorbikes and cars, the image of a skinny, dark-skinned father carrying his daughter on an old, "broken down" bicycle for more than 6km in hot weather to the high school graduation exam site moved many people.
Mr. Minh said that during the three years his daughter was in high school, he took her to school by bicycle, rain or shine. He himself did not know how to ride a motorbike, so he had no choice but to ride his bicycle to take his daughter to school.
“My house is on Ton Dan Street, my daughter has to go to school via Truong Chinh Street. This is a national highway full of trucks and containers. Many times, I thought about letting her ride her bike, but seeing so many accidents on this road, I couldn’t bear it, so I just took her to school by bike for 3 years. My wife works at a medical station so she can’t take her to and from school every day, luckily my job doesn’t put pressure on time,” Mr. Minh confided.
Mr. Minh shared that the bicycle that accompanied the father and son was supported by the district under the difficult circumstances since the child was in 6th grade.
Yesterday, after completing the exam procedures, his daughter said the teacher told her to come to school early, so he couldn't sleep all night. Not being subjective, he woke up early this morning to prepare and then cycled for more than half an hour to take his daughter to the exam site.
“It doesn’t matter how far or how hard it is, as long as my child is safe, I’m happy. I don’t have the financial means to provide for my child, but my love and concern for him are boundless, so I will try to do everything I can to help him conquer his journey to find knowledge,” the father confided.
Nguyen Thi My Linh – Mr. Minh’s daughter, wishes to study preschool education. This time passing the “gate of heaven”, the father hopes his daughter will achieve good results to have a better future.
