Prolonged rain has caused moss and slippery growth on many roads in rural areas, especially concrete roads, creating potential traffic accidents.
The rural road is full of algae in Hamlet 3, Nang Mau town.
A typical example is the road along the Xang Hau canal, in Thanh Loi hamlet, Hoa Luu commune, Vi Thanh city, in the past few days, a lot of moss has appeared, making it slippery. The road surface is about 2m wide, but because of the moss, only one 2-wheeled vehicle can run in the middle of the road. If 2 vehicles pass each other, one must stop to give way, because both sides of the road are covered with moss. Despite being careful, there are still many cases of falling due to just a small mistake.
Mr. Ca Van Nuoi lives on this route, so he often witnesses people falling down because the road is slippery. There are cases where after falling, they cannot walk and have to sit for about 30 minutes before continuing. Mr. Ca Van Nuoi said: "Every rainy season, this route is covered with moss, making it easy for accidents to happen when driving. In the past few days, there have been nearly a dozen cases of people falling down, including pedestrians."
The rural road in Hamlet 3, Nang Mau Town, Vi Thuy District, also has moss covering the road surface, making it very slippery. This route is quite long but houses are sparse, many sections are covered with trees. This is a good condition for moss to grow.
Ms. Do Thi Thu Hong, who lives along this road, said: “A few days ago, at dawn, I was cleaning the house when I heard a car fall. I ran out to see and saw a young man struggling to put his car back up. When asked, he said that because it was dark and he drove into a place with weeds, he lost control and fell.”
To avoid slippery roads, many people buy lime powder and cement to spread, but after a short time moss grows all over.
According to Mr. Nguyen Lam Thanh, Chief of Office of the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, in order to ensure the safety of people when participating in traffic on the roads, in the immediate future, localities need to coordinate with people to organize clearing campaigns, remove tree branches to cover the road to create open space, avoid stagnant water on the road surface. In addition, traffic participants also need to be careful when traveling on roads with a lot of weeds. When driving on slippery roads, you need to drive very slowly, do not brake suddenly, because just driving on the weeds and braking suddenly will cause the vehicle to immediately change direction, which can easily cause an accident; if two vehicles are going in opposite directions, they need to give way when passing...
“In the long term, localities need to propagate to people to regularly pay attention to, clear trees, branches, weed, clean the road in front of their house. At the same time, if the road appears damaged or degraded, it is necessary to organize patching to avoid stagnant water every time it rains,” added the Chief of Office of the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee.
The risk of falling due to driving on slippery roads will be reduced if each family is more aware of cleaning and clearing grass on both sides of the road; handling moss patches on the road surface... These are small actions but will bring practical meaning in limiting unfortunate traffic accidents that may occur.
Mr. Quang Van Mon, in Thanh Loi Hamlet, Hoa Luu Commune, Vi Thanh City, said: “To limit moss on the road surface, my family regularly trims tree branches and weeds the road in front of our house. But this road is quite long, my family alone is not enough, it requires the joint efforts of many people.” |
