Two Vietnamese candidates achieved perfect scores on the TOEFL Junior test

On the afternoon of August 18, the closing and awarding ceremony of the TOEFL Primary Challenge & TOEFL Junior Challenge English contest for the 2023-2024 school year took place in Hanoi.

At the award ceremony, the 32 best primary and secondary school students won national prizes and the provincial and city winners nationwide were awarded.

Entering its 12th year, the TOEFL Primary Challenge & TOEFL Junior Challenge English competitions are being implemented nationwide by IIG Vietnam Education Organization - the national representative of the Educational Testing Service (ETS).

This is an intellectual playground for Vietnamese students, providing opportunities to experience, test and approach international English certification exams. From there, fueling passion and spreading the movement of learning English according to international standards in the trend of global integration.

The 2023 - 2024 season will see the participation of thousands of contestants from more than 1,200 primary schools and nearly 590 secondary schools in 12 provinces and cities across the country.

At the national finals, the results achieved by the contestants showed that the young generation of Vietnam possesses excellent international standard language proficiency.

With the TOEFL ITP test for secondary school students, 100% of candidates have level B1 or higher in listening comprehension, reading comprehension, structure and expression according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

With the TOEFL Junior test for primary school students, 100% of candidates achieved level A2 or higher in listening comprehension, grammar and vocabulary; 97% of candidates achieved level A2 or higher in reading comprehension converted according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Notably, with four candidates winning first prize at the national level, there were two primary school candidates participating in the TOEFL Junior Challenge test scoring 900/900 points.

These are the contestants: Pham Tung Lam (student of class 3GE, Newton 5 Primary and Secondary School (Hanoi) won first prize in grade 2-3 (900/900 points); Le Manh Tien (student of class 5A8, Lomonoxop Primary School, Hanoi) won first prize in grade 4-5 (900/900 points).

In addition, contestant Nguyen Ha Bao Trang (Vinschool Time City Secondary and High School) won first prize in grades 6-7 (673/677 points); Dang Hoang Tue Anh (class 9A5, Nam Trung Yen Secondary School) won first prize in grades 8-9 (667/677 points).

At the provincial and city level rounds, the organizing committee's statistics recorded outstanding achievements of candidates at both primary and secondary school levels.

Of which, for primary school candidates, up to 89% of candidates achieved level A1 or higher in listening comprehension skills, and 95% of students achieved level A1 or higher in reading comprehension skills according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ​​(CEFR).

For secondary school level, 95% of candidates achieved level A2 or higher in listening comprehension, 98% of candidates achieved level A2 or higher in grammar and vocabulary, and 92% of candidates achieved level A2 or higher in reading comprehension according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
