For more than two decades, Vo Van Kiet Street leading to the administrative center of Bac Lieu province has been blocked due to two houses located in the middle of the route.
The information was stated at a press conference on how to handle two houses located in the middle of the road chaired by Chairman of Bac Lieu Provincial People's Committee Pham Van Thieu on the afternoon of May 9.

More than 20 years ago, the project to open a road about one kilometer long and 30 meters wide, connecting the center of the administrative area and the provincial square was implemented. The project affected 62 households, and so far 60 households have handed over their land. Currently, there are two houses (more than 200 meters apart) of Mr. Do Thanh Hung and Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong in Hamlet 5, Ward 1.
According to the Chairman of the Bac Lieu City People's Committee, Le Kim Thuy, since 2007, the local government has been persistently trying to persuade the two households to hand over their land but has not achieved the desired results. For many years, the two houses have been blocking the road, causing frustration for the people.
Mr. Do Thanh Tuan (son of Mr. Do Thanh Hung) said the reason for not handing over the land was because the state initially reclaimed the land to build Hung Vuong Square, but then "handed it over to other people". "The land area located entirely on the road is more than 400 square meters, the remaining area of nearly 600 square meters is set back inside. If the state compensates with 100 billion VND, my family is willing to hand over the land", Mr. Tuan said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Le Tan Can, Vice Chairman of Bac Lieu Provincial People's Committee, said that due to the lack of cooperation of the local residents, the authorities have not been able to measure the actual area that needs to be cleared for road construction. The province agreed to reissue previous decisions and redo the procedures.
Chairman of Bac Lieu Provincial People's Committee Pham Van Thieu said that compensation for land clearance will be implemented in a way that benefits the people but must comply with regulations. The locality continues to mobilize people to comply, restore the road to its openness, and help the city develop its economy and tourism. In case the two households do not cooperate, the province's last resort will be coercion.
