Axios reported on January 30 that the US House of Representatives' administrative leadership official sent a notice to congressmen's offices, asking them not to use the Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) application DeepSeek while the application is under investigation.

DeepSeek is an AI-based chatbot application that has taken the global technology market by storm in recent days when it is said to have capabilities equivalent to leading applications such as ChatGPT or Gemini but has much lower development costs and is built on older chips.
However, this application is also facing reservations from authorities in some Western countries about privacy and data management.
Italy's Garante data protection agency on January 30 blocked access to DeepSeek to protect user data and opened an investigation into the companies behind the chatbot, according to AP.
Two US representatives, John Moolenaar (Republican) and Raja Krishnamoorthi (Democrat), who lead the committee on competition with China, are calling on President Donald Trump to consider banning the export of the H20 AI chip made by Nvidia that DeepSeek is using, as well as chips with similar technology.
The Commerce Department and State Department are reviewing U.S. export restrictions ordered by President Trump amid new developments involving strategic rivals. The two lawmakers’ proposal is part of the review.
Nvidia has issued a statement saying that its products comply with all government regulations and that the company is willing to work with authorities on AI issues. President Trump is reportedly considering banning the export of the H20 chip, which Nvidia produces for export, to avoid bans on other advanced chips.
