In 2024, the agricultural and rural sector will implement the plan in conditions with mixed advantages and difficulties, challenges, including natural disasters. Since then, the sector has continued to maintain high growth momentum, comprehensive development, achieving and exceeding most of the main targets. Specifically, GDP growth of the whole sector is estimated at about 3.3%.
Agriculture continues to affirm its important position and is the pillar of the economy. The output and productivity of many key products increased quite high, typically rice reached nearly 43.7 million tons, up 0.4% and productivity reached 61.4 quintals/ha, up 0.3 quintals/ha... Improving the level of research, application, and transfer of science and technology, associated with innovation, improving the quality of agricultural vocational training for rural workers...
At the conference, representatives of a number of central ministries, branches, localities, associations, and industries discussed and analyzed the results of 2024. At the same time, they contributed opinions and proposed solutions to promote advantages in 2025.
Particularly in Binh Thuan, in 2024, the agriculture and rural development sector will implement the plan in the face of complicated weather conditions in some areas. The situation of pests and diseases on crops and diseases on livestock pose a potential risk of causing harm; the province's shrimp seed production activities are facing difficulties...
But the whole industry achieved and exceeded 11/13 targets; the growth rate of added value in agriculture, forestry and fishery is estimated at 3.07%/plan 3% - 3.2%. Of which, the area of short-term crops is estimated at 104.4% of the plan. Particularly, the area of rice is estimated at 126,300 ha/ 123,280 ha... Total food output in the province in 2024 is estimated at 873,080 tons/ 872,000 tons...
In addition to the positive results achieved, the province still faces some difficulties and limitations such as the production and consumption linkage of some agricultural products with strengths is not really stable. The area of dragon fruit production according to VietGAP standards has not reached the set target. The quality and sustainable maintenance of the results of achieving new rural standards of some communes are still limited...
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development also acknowledged that Vietnam has not yet removed the EC's "yellow card" on seafood fishing. Violations in food quality and safety management still occur at some food production and trading establishments, causing public reaction.
In 2025, the main target of the agriculture and rural development sector is the GDP growth rate of the whole sector of 3.4 - 3.5%; agricultural, forestry and fishery export turnover of 64 - 65 billion USD. Strive for the rate of achieving new rural standards of over 80%; stable forest coverage rate at 42.02%, improving forest quality...
Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the achievements of the agricultural sector in 2024. He especially emphasized that the work of preventing and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters during storm No. 3 was an outstanding achievement of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The sector quickly stabilized people's lives, stabilized production, met domestic consumption needs and achieved new record exports.
The Prime Minister emphasized that 2025 is the year of acceleration and breakthrough. Therefore, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development needs to focus on leadership and direction to do well in planning and building strategies. At the same time, remove bottlenecks in institutions, policy mechanisms to develop the agricultural sector quickly and sustainably. At the same time, it is necessary to further promote the development of science and technology, innovation and digital transformation to serve the development of green economy, circular economy, knowledge economy and creative economy. Improve communication efficiency, especially communication of agricultural and rural development policies. Arrange and consolidate the organizational apparatus when merging and streamlining units. Create a favorable environment for investment and business in agriculture and rural areas. Promote trade promotion, negotiate to remove technical and trade barriers and open markets, especially markets with great potential... Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also assigned the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to remove the IUU "yellow card".
