Spring comes with small rains soaking into each layer of soil, that is the time when the forest planting season begins. Like many forest owners, Mr. Chieu A Sam (village Khe 10, Don Dac commune, Ba Che district) also urgently clears the ground cover, prepares seedlings, base fertilizer, top dressing, prepares human and material resources to dig holes and plant trees.
The 2025 forest planting season for Mr. Sam is very different from previous forest planting seasons, because almost all of his family's 20 hectares of production forest were destroyed by storm No. 3 (Yagi). The current situation requires Mr. Sam to quickly plant forests to compensate for the damaged area. Starting over, Mr. Sam and his family members are determined to overcome difficulties and make efforts to plant trees to restore the family's forests to their former glory.
Mr. Sam confided: After the storm, if we counted the damage in money, our family would have lost several billion VND. Now replanting the forest would cost hundreds of millions of VND, which is not a small amount at this time. However, I cannot just sit there and regret, I am determined to do it again, to stick to the trees, to stick to the forest. I believe that my family will have lush green forests again and the forest will bring us a high and stable income.
The land of Khe 10 village is mainly mountainous forest. Born and raised here, Chiu A Sam has been attached to the forest, using the forest as a livelihood and main source of income. With the strong physique of the indigenous people, combined with the industrious nature, as well as the ability to plant, care for, and exploit planted forest wood, Sam and his family have gradually become rich from the forest. Especially since Khe 10 village has invested in traffic infrastructure and production infrastructure from the capital of the New Rural Development Program, each forest harvest, Sam's family has easily earned several hundred million VND.
Mr. Sam shared: The forest land here is rich in nutrients, has a high humus content, and a humid climate, suitable for forest trees to grow. For acacia planting, it can be harvested after only 6 years, with a value of 60-80 million VND/ha. If the acacia trees are left to grow for 8-10 years before harvesting, the value will be higher. After deducting the cost of investing in fertilizer, seeds, and care workers, my family has a profit of more than half of the total revenue.
Thanks to the income from the forest, the people of Khe 10 village, including Mr. Chieu A Sam's family, have had a clear change. Mr. Sam has been able to build and repair a large, beautiful, and spacious house, take care of and educate his children, and is one of the households with high income in the village.
Entering the 2025 forest planting season, Mr. Sam set a target of planting about 10 hectares of forest, in which, along with planting acacia trees to generate income soon, Mr. Sam also planted large timber trees, native trees, planted forests using organic methods, prioritizing trees with high economic value such as cinnamon and ironwood. Mr. Sam also piloted planting medicinal herbs under the forest canopy, using it as an immediate source of income to serve the goal of replanting green, sustainable forests.
