On December 11, Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Chris Wray announced that he will resign early next year. Mr. Chris Wray made the statement after President-elect Donald Trump announced his intention to fire Mr. Wray immediately after taking office early next year.
Mr. Trump also chose Mr. Kash Patel for the position of head of the FBI.

Responding to the resignation announcement of FBI Director Chris Wray, on his social network Truth Social, Mr. Trump called this a great day for America and this will end the weaponization of the country's Justice Department.
Mr. Chris Wray has been in office for 10 years and was appointed by Mr. Trump in his first term, in 2017. Before Mr. Chris Wray, FBI Director James Comey was fired by Mr. Trump after investigating allegations that Mr. Trump's campaign was involved with Russia in the 2016 election.
Mr Trump and his allies have criticised Mr Chris Wray and the FBI after the agency raided his Florida resort to retrieve classified documents kept after leaving office.
