After the success of 4 seasons, this year, the Journalist & Public Opinion Newspaper is expanding the award in both scale and quality. Hopefully, many impressive moments of 2022 will be honored at the "Press Moments 2022" award ceremony.
The most anticipated photo award every year
Although it has only been through 4 seasons, the name "Press Moments" has become familiar to the photojournalist community nationwide and is a familiar playground, an anticipated award, and a gathering place for photographers nationwide.
With the desire to honor impressive press moments as well as create a separate playground for photojournalists to demonstrate their professional skills, encourage innovation, creativity, and new perspectives on press photos, in 2019, the Journalist & Public Opinion Newspaper organized the "Press Moments" photo award for the first time, within the framework of the 2019 Press Gala.
Over the past 4 years, the “Press Moments” Award has been continuously strengthened and improved to be closer to the reality of press photography. The prize structure with great value has been maintained, thus attracting more and more authors to participate in the award.
Every year, the awards are carefully and thoroughly screened and evaluated to ensure the highest objectivity. The jury is made up of experienced and prestigious experts in journalism and photojournalism. As a result, the number of entries has increased steadily each year. The number of participating authors is increasing, not only from central press agencies but also from many local press agencies, helping to make the participating photojournalism works increasingly rich and diverse.

In particular, the quality of press photos has been significantly improved over the years. These are truly excellent photos, the most impressive “Press Moments” of the year, rich in meaning, honoring the spirit of dedication, perspectives, and humane emotions of photojournalists, thus receiving high approval from professionals as well as colleagues. Since then, the attraction and prestige of the Award have been increasingly enhanced.
Having a work honored at the annual "Press Moments" Photo Award has become a great honor for the team of photojournalists. Reporter Nguyen Giang Nam - To Quoc Electronic Newspaper said: "I evaluate and compare the "Press Moments" Award as the National Press Award for photojournalists, honoring photojournalists who often have to go to the field, directly encounter many difficulties and challenges, and are always present at the hottest events of social life" .
Evaluating the quality of the photo contest "Press Moments 2021" , journalist Le Quoc Minh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association commented: "I highly appreciate the efforts of the Organizing Committee, Nha Bao & Cong Luan Newspaper in maintaining a separate playground for photojournalists to demonstrate their professional skills, encourage innovations, creativity, new perspectives on press photography, and reflect the fastest, most timely, and most vivid developments in all aspects of social life. Indeed, the highest-prize winning photo works in the past 4 years such as: "Thu Thiem residents have been tirelessly fighting for justice for decades" (2018); "People's soldiers" (2019); "Searching for landslide victims in Tra Leng" (2020); "The plea of the Da Giang River" (2021) and the photos that won A, B, C prizes in previous years have truly been typical photo works of the year, leaving unforgettable emotions in the hearts of readers. In addition to being topical, these award-winning photo series also carry profound humanity.
It can be said that the "Press Moments" photo contest has become increasingly attractive to photojournalists, as commented by author Tran Ngoc Nam - Tuoi Tre Newspaper: "After many years of participating in the "Press Moments" contest, I see that the number of participating authors is increasing, especially young people who have just graduated and worked for a few years but are very active in participating, and the quality of their photos is very high" .
From its initial success, “Press Moments” has contributed to opening up opportunities for photojournalists to have an environment to practice and improve their skills, creating more motivation for photojournalists to create more high-quality press photos with profound humanistic meaning.
Expanding the award structure and improving the quality of the award
Over the years, Vietnamese press photography has grown, is increasingly valued by editorial offices, and has become essential content in many newspapers. Vietnamese press photography has gone beyond pure illustration to have its own strong voice. The team of Vietnamese press photographers has also grown faster, stronger, and more elite. The dedication of photojournalists is also more evident through current events.
Photojournalists have proven their role by rushing into hot spots, regardless of danger, ready to work in all conditions and circumstances, to truly reflect social life through photo series. More and more Vietnamese photojournalists are being recognized through domestic and international awards.
However, in Vietnam in recent times, photojournalism has not really developed as its potential and expectations. There are still too few quality and prestigious photojournalism playgrounds, seemingly unable to meet all the needs of photojournalists, and unable to keep up with the development of photojournalism. The development of modern journalism with its diversity of genres, perspectives, and ways of expression requires more photojournalism awards to be a place to discover, recognize, and honor the talent and creativity of photojournalists as well as create more opportunities for photographers to demonstrate their talent and love for the profession.
In fact, that is the reason why the Journalist & Public Opinion Newspaper has expanded and upgraded the "Press Moment" Photo Award with the expectation that the Award will be one of the "meeting places" and "press photo playgrounds" of national scale, attracting more photojournalists from all press agencies across the country, keeping up with the trend of modern press photography, discovering and honoring press photography talents. This is even more meaningful in the context of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press moving towards the 100-year milestone of formation and development. The development of Vietnamese press photography also contributes to the development of Vietnamese press in general.
With the aim of selecting valuable photos that closely reflect each field of journalistic life, this year the "Press Moments 2022" Photo Award will be divided into 3 categories: Current Affairs, Social Life, Sports. For each category, the Organizing Committee will award 1 Gold Prize (30 million VND), 1 Silver Prize (20 million VND), 1 Bronze Prize (15 million VND). The best photo work of 2022 will be honored with the Press Moments Special Prize with a prize value of 50 million VND.
In addition, the Organizing Committee will also select the 50 best works to exhibit Top 50 Press Moments at the 2023 Press Gala. For each photo exhibited without winning the main prize, the author will receive a bonus of 2 million VND.
The “Press Moments 2022” photo award will accept entries from June 1, 2023 to September 30, 2023. Hopefully, with the expansion of the structure and value of the award, the award will attract a large number of photojournalists nationwide to participate. Hopefully, in this 2022 season, we will find worthy winners to award and honor in the 2023 Press Gala program.
