Tuoi Tre Online interviewed Mr. Ha Van Sieu, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, regarding the impact of the recent anchoring of airfare prices.
Mr. Sieu believes that this is the time when many businesses need to use "resources from thinking" to diversify means of transport and create new tourism products.
* Sir, how does high domestic ticket prices affect the campaign "Vietnamese people travel to Vietnam"?
- Currently, airfares are quite high, transportation costs have increased, and of course travel costs have also increased, affecting customer demand.
Previously, during peak season, due to the imbalance between supply and demand, airfares would increase. However, the current high prices will create more pressure on the destination.
Of course, when demand exceeds supply, the pressure is not only on the aviation sector, but if domestic flight ticket prices are approximately the same as those to neighboring countries, domestic tourists will have many choices of countries.

* When airfares go up, what do tourists and travel businesses need to prepare?
- I think times like this are when the media needs to provide timely information so that tourists can plan their trips, and travel agencies must also be more proactive...
There are many factors affecting the price of air services, however, we should consider "in danger there is opportunity" as it is also a good opportunity to explore and develop other products and forms of transportation.
Domestic tourism needs to diversify products to serve customers, diversify destinations, diversify means of transportation...

* Specifically, which tourism products can take advantage of this opportunity to develop?
- In addition to strengthening connections with transportation hubs by air, rail, river, sea and road to diversify services, businesses need to turn it into an opportunity to create new products and new experiences.
For example, in terms of railway experience, we have many routes with many unique tourism resources.
People not only travel, but also experience the journey, such as the recent opening of the heritage route connecting Hue with Da Nang.
The same goes for sea routes. Instead of only developing short routes and routes to islands as at present, this is also an opportunity to create many "arcs" connecting points from North to South from Mong Cai to Ca Mau.
The interesting thing about sea tourism is that it brings both the experience at sea and the destinations, the new experience is the new tourism product. I consider this an opportunity for the maritime industry, an opportunity for businesses to invest in large ships traveling from North to South.
At the same time, road tourism will also have the opportunity to develop when the whole country completes the highway system. Suburban destinations and satellite destinations suitable for personal car travel also have many opportunities.
In 2023, there will be about 5 million Vietnamese people traveling abroad - Photo: TRUONG TRUNG
Vietnamese people traveling abroad in 2023 will be half of the time before the pandemic.
At the announcement of the program to stimulate and attract tourists to Da Nang (Enjoy Danang 2024), Mr. Ha Van Sieu, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, said that in 2023, about 5 million Vietnamese people will travel abroad. Meanwhile, in 2018, about 10 million Vietnamese people traveled abroad.
Mr. Sieu assessed that Da Nang is a locality with many creative activities in tourism promotion. Not only is it a bright spot in stimulating tourism and attracting tourists to Da Nang, but it also contributes to the growth of Vietnam's tourism industry in general.
