Of the more than 32,300 job seekers, workers with university degrees or higher account for nearly 77 percent and face more difficulties than other groups, according to Falmi's report.
This is part of the report on the third quarter labor market and fourth quarter human resource demand in Ho Chi Minh City recently released by the City Center for Human Resource Demand Forecasting and Labor Market Information (Falmi). The report surveyed 14,540 businesses with nearly 70,000 job vacancies and 32,305 job seekers.
According to Falmi, nearly 77% of job seekers have a university degree or higher, this rate is more than 20% in the college group, about 2% in the secondary and primary group, and only 0.53% of people want to do manual labor jobs such as packaging workers, garment workers, data entry at home...
Meanwhile, in the total recruitment needs of enterprises, positions requiring university degrees or higher account for only nearly 23%, this rate in the college group is 24.61%, intermediate and primary level accounts for nearly 39%. Up to 13.55% of recruitment needs require unskilled labor with nearly 9,500 job positions, mainly concentrated in the groups of commercial business, security, consulting, customer care, warehouse...
Dr. Do Thanh Van, Deputy Director of Falmi, assessed that during this period, workers with university degrees or higher are facing more difficulties in finding jobs than other groups. The reason comes from the needs of employers and expectations about salary levels, and the ability of workers to meet the positions.
Mr. Van gave an example, for the restaurant and hotel service industry when Falmi surveyed, businesses all required candidates to only graduate from college or intermediate school. According to employers, workers with this level of education will practice well, start working immediately, and do not need to be retrained. This requirement is similar in the mechanical engineering industry.
In addition, according to Mr. Van, at this stage, businesses are facing difficulties and tightening spending, so they limit recruiting high-paying management positions and prioritize people who can work immediately, specifically the direct production team. Therefore, positions with university degrees or higher must compete more.

Regarding salary, Falmi's survey also showed that over 40% of job seekers want a monthly salary of over 20 million VND, nearly 21% of workers want a salary of over 15-20 million VND, the level from over 10-15 million VND accounts for 26% and the rest want a salary of 5-10 million VND.
Meanwhile, less than 15% of the recruitment positions have a monthly salary of over 20 million VND, mainly in positions such as electronic engineering, software engineering, doctors, executive management... Positions with a salary of over 10-15 million VND per month dominate with a rate of over 34% of the total recruitment needs. In particular, over 2% of the recruitment positions have a salary of under 5 million VND.
Previously, according to the 6-month statistics of the Ho Chi Minh City Employment Service Center, unemployed people with university degrees or higher accounted for 36%, ranking second among the total number of applicants in the city. The group without degrees or certificates ranked first, accounting for about 53%, and the group with college degrees ranked third, accounting for nearly 6%.
