(PLVN) - In recent years, nature-based tourism has become a popular trend in developing sustainable tourism in Vietnam, and Tra Vinh is a typical example. This tourism model not only promotes the local economy in a sustainable way, but also helps preserve the culture and ecological environment typical of the region.

Located between the Tien and Hau rivers, Tra Vinh has rich natural conditions and a diverse culture of Kinh, Khmer and Chinese people. With the goal of protecting the environment and developing the economy, Tra Vinh has been striving to promote the model of natural tourism as a long-term strategy, not only bringing benefits to the community but also preserving valuable cultural and ecological heritage.

Ecotourism, also known as “green” tourism, is not only an environmentally friendly form of tourism but also emphasizes respecting and protecting cultural and traditional values. In Tra Vinh, this form is attracting great attention thanks to its rich and diverse natural ecosystem. From mangrove forests to river systems and lush orchards, Tra Vinh offers visitors unique experiences that are both close to nature and imbued with local culture.

One of the bright “pieces” in this tourism model is the eco-tours at Cu Lao Tan Quy, where visitors can participate in fishing, tree planting, and visit fruit gardens. Other eco-tourism destinations such as Con Chim and Con Ong also attract many nature-loving tourists. These tours not only bring relaxation but also help raise visitors’ awareness of environmental protection, highlighting the mission of nature-friendly tourism, developing in harmony with nature, and protecting the precious resources of the Mekong Delta region.

Above all, these models help tourists understand more about the daily life of people in the river region and also contribute to creating a strong connection between people and nature. This is the core of nature-based tourism - living with nature, protecting the environment and developing sustainably.

Coming to Con Chim for the first time, Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc (Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City) said he really liked the enthusiastic way of doing tourism of the local people. The activities of experiencing grinding flour by hand, making banh la mo to enjoy at "Co Ba Sua's" house, drinking sweet coconut water at "Vuon co Be Thao" with grass straws... won his heart and everyone in the group.

Not stopping there, the mangrove forest in the Ba Dong sea area is also an attractive destination with activities such as bird watching, boating in the middle of pristine nature. The mangrove ecosystem here not only plays an important role in protecting the coast from erosion but is also home to many species of wildlife, creating valuable biodiversity for this land.

Preserve and develop cultural and ecological tourism

Not only focusing on nature protection, nature tourism in Tra Vinh also combines with cultural preservation, especially the culture of the Khmer people - one of the main ethnic groups in the locality. Many ancient Khmer pagodas have become tourist attractions thanks to their unique architecture and long history, such as: Ang Pagoda, Hang Pagoda and Nodol Pagoda... Through visiting and learning about the culture at these pagodas, visitors not only gain knowledge but also immerse themselves in a peaceful spiritual space.

In addition, traditional festivals such as Ok Om Bok Festival and Chol Chnam Thmay Festival of the Khmer people are also events that attract a large number of tourists. This festival is not only cultural in nature but also an opportunity for the local community to promote the image of the country and people of Tra Vinh, thereby contributing to the development of tourism.

In addition, the historical and cultural relics of the Kinh and Hoa people in Tra Vinh also play an important role in developing tourism. Traditional craft villages such as mat weaving, basketry, and specialty food processing are unique cultural features that need to be preserved and promoted. Tourists not only have the opportunity to learn about history and culture but also participate in the production process, creating a cultural exchange imbued with local identity.

Mr. Duong Hoang Sum - Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Tra Vinh said: Thuan Thien tourism not only brings economic development opportunities to the locality but also contributes to the preservation of cultural and ecological heritage. The development of Thuan Thien tourism needs to be implemented synchronously, with the participation of local communities, social organizations and authorities. By connecting people with nature, preserving and promoting traditional cultural values, Tra Vinh is on the way to building a sustainable tourism model, contributing to enriching the development picture of the Mekong Delta river region.

According to Mr. Duong Hoang Sum, in the future, if properly invested and effective policies to protect natural resources are implemented, Tra Vinh can completely become an ideal destination for those who love ecotourism and want to explore indigenous culture. This is not only an environmentally friendly tourism model but also a sustainable direction, bringing long-term benefits to both the community and nature.

Currently, Tra Vinh has been making efforts to combine cultural preservation and economic development through exploiting natural tourism. The close coordination between households, tourism businesses and local authorities has built a tourism model that not only brings economic benefits but also ensures sustainability and preserves precious cultural values over time.
