Kinhtedothi - Nam Dinh is not only famous for its long-standing historical and cultural values but also possesses great potential for developing green and sustainable tourism.

Attractive destination with green and sustainable tourism potential

Located in the South of the Red River Delta, Nam Dinh has a relatively complete transportation system of roads, railways, and waterways; there are national highways and expressways running through the province along with a fairly developed system of provincial and district roads.

With a 72km long coastline, Nam Dinh has many beautiful beaches such as Thinh Long (Hai Hau district), Quat Lam (Giao Thuy district), Rang Dong (Nghia Hung district) and attractive coastal and sandbar areas. In particular, Xuan Thuy National Park (Giao Thuy district) is known as the first Ramsar site in Vietnam. This place is not only an important wetland, a paradise for birds but also a place where people and nature closely interact with each other. Xuan Thuy National Park tourism is becoming a highlight, attracting visitors with activities to experience rivers, learn about mangrove ecosystems and environmental protection education.

In addition, the typical landscape of the Northern Delta with vast rice fields and traditional salt villages in Giao Thuy, Hai Hau and Nghia Hung create favorable conditions for the development of experiential tourism and community tourism.

Nam Dinh is also a land rich in tradition with more than 1,300 relics that have been inventoried and ranked. Notable tourist attractions include Tran Temple - Pho Minh Pagoda, Keo Hanh Thien Pagoda, Phu Day Palace, Co Le Pagoda, Luong Pagoda - Ngoi Bridge, General Secretary Truong Chinh Memorial Site and a system of Catholic churches with unique architecture.

Not only is it a place to preserve unique intangible cultural heritages such as "Practice of worshipping the Mother Goddesses of the Vietnamese people" - recognized by UNESCO, along with 11 national heritages, Nam Dinh is also the cradle of many famous traditional craft villages such as: Co Chat silk reeling, Cu Tru weaving (Truc Ninh), Vi Khe flower village (Nam Truc), Tong Xa bronze casting, Cat Dang lacquerware, La Xuyen wood carving (Y Yen).

Solutions for tourism development towards green growth

In recent years, Nam Dinh's tourism industry has grown continuously. After the post-COVID-19 recovery period, the number of tourists to Nam Dinh reached more than 1 million in 2022, an increase of 120% compared to the previous year. By 2023, this number increased to 1.77 million, with total tourism revenue reaching VND535 billion. In 2024, Nam Dinh welcomed more than 1.86 million visitors, with tourism revenue reaching VND560 billion, up 5.2% and 4.7% respectively compared to 2023. This achievement is a testament to the continuous efforts of the provincial tourism industry, laying the foundation for a sustainable development strategy in the future.

Green growth is an inevitable trend for sustainable tourism development. However, to implement it effectively, there needs to be synchronization between policy mechanisms, investment resources and awareness of businesses and people. The province focuses on building a tourism development strategy towards green growth, aiming at rational exploitation of resources, use of renewable energy, waste treatment and encouragement of sustainable tourism models.

Nam Dinh is currently focusing on developing green tourism products such as eco-tourism, beach resorts, nature exploration, agricultural tourism and community experiences. Models such as mangrove tourism in Xuan Thuy National Park, craft village tourism, or cultural - spiritual tourism associated with traditional festivals are contributing to creating strong attraction.

In addition, the province also promotes attracting investment from enterprises with financial potential and modern technology to improve service quality and protect resources. Waste and wastewater management at tourist destinations is also focused on to ensure a clean and sustainable environment.

With its available potentials and strategic orientation for green tourism development, Nam Dinh is gradually becoming an attractive destination, offering visitors complete experiences of nature, culture and people.
