Domestic pepper prices updated on the afternoon of March 12, 2025 |
According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), in the short term, pepper prices have increased compared to previous years, so gardeners benefit. It is forecasted that the demand for pepper in the world in the coming time will remain quite high, so pepper prices may continue to increase.
However, overall, pepper cultivation is still unstable. The main reason is that other crops such as durian are bringing higher profits, making many farmers still not interested in increasing pepper acreage.
Global pepper production is expected to continue to decline through 2025 due to reduced cultivation areas in Vietnam and adverse weather conditions in India, according to a Nedspice report. Demand remains higher than supply, but crops such as durian and coffee bring better returns, limiting Vietnamese farmers from expanding pepper acreage.

Vietnam's pepper output in the 2024-2025 crop year is expected to reach 172,000 tons, down 2% year-on-year and down 47% year-on-year. In Brazil, pepper output in 2025 is estimated at 85,000-90,000 tons, of which Espírito Santo state will harvest about 20,000 tons. India is expected to see a 20-25% drop in output due to bad weather in Karnataka, which could increase import demand despite trade barriers.
Pepper prices are expected to rise sharply by the end of 2024 but are currently fluctuating within a narrow range. Vietnamese farmers benefit from high prices, reducing selling pressure. Exports to China in 2024 are expected to fall by more than 80%, and it is unclear when China will return to the market, but if they buy heavily, pepper prices could continue to rise.
