TTH.VN - On August 11, in Hue City, the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) in collaboration with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) and the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council organized a workshop with the theme "Enhancing competitiveness to access supply chains for women-owned and gender-responsive enterprises".

At the workshop, representatives of units and enterprises focused on discussing the topic "Enhancing market access and supply chains for women-owned enterprises". In which , there was the participation of speakers from the retail chain Wincommerce, SeABank and women-owned enterprises in the province. The speakers shared and discussed on market access and supply chain issues of women-owned businesses today; solutions to support women-owned businesses and gender-responsible businesses to improve their capacity to connect to the market.

Through the workshop, the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council and UN Women also introduced the program "Creating equal market opportunities for women and women-led businesses through gender-responsible procurement" - WE RISE Together, introducing the criteria and how businesses can register to participate in the program. The purpose is to help businesses in the province have the opportunity to improve their competitiveness, access supply chains and markets through the series of activities of the WE RISE Together program, which will be held in Hue in the period of 2023-2025.

Speaking at the workshop, Ms. Mai Thi Dieu Huyen, Vice President in charge of the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council, said: Currently, the number of women nationwide in general and women in Thua Thien Hue province in particular participating in the role of business leaders is still limited. Women are less connected to larger and more favorable market opportunities. Women-owned businesses also face gender inequality, including market inequality.

The COVID-19 crisis has also exacerbated pre-existing gender inequalities as many women have lost their jobs, shouldered additional caregiving responsibilities, and many female-owned businesses have closed or scaled back operations.

The workshop is the opening activity for a series of programs to support women-owned and gender-responsive businesses in Thua Thien Hue to improve their capacity to build sustainable business models, increase market access, and increase potential partners in the supply chain.
