Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong, a truck driver, reported that he had waited for more than 20 minutes but his truck still could not cross the bridge. “Early this morning, I transported goods to Dien Ban and saw few vehicles passing by. I thought it would be the same on the way back. I didn’t expect that there would be so many vehicles now, delaying my work at home,” Mr. Phuong said in frustration.
Duy Phuoc – Cam Kim Bridge connects the new Cam Kim Bridge (Hoi An City) through Duy Phuoc Commune (Duy Xuyen District) to Nam Phuoc. This is a small bridge, about 3m wide, just enough for a car to pass, not even enough space for motorbikes, bicycles or pedestrians going in the opposite direction. Many foreign tourists from Hoi An cycled to the bridge and had to turn back after seeing the traffic jam.
A young man riding a motorbike waiting at the foot of the bridge said that he works in Hoi An and has to cross Duy Phuoc – Cam Kim bridge every day, but since Cau Lau bridge banned cars, many types of vehicles have been congested here, especially cars carrying tourists from Hoi An to My Son and back, affecting travel.
“If I get stuck in traffic like today, I will definitely be late for work. Of course, I can go around Hoi An, but the distance is quite far. I know that this bridge mainly serves people and primitive vehicles, so it is relatively weak. Now, seeing so many vehicles on the road, it is very dangerous,” the young man worried.
Being present at Duy Phuoc – Cam Kim bridge this afternoon, March 22, witnessing the long lines of vehicles waiting for their turn, I realized how much pressure the bridge can bear. In particular, because the approach road to the bridge is hidden, narrow, steep and has no one to coordinate, sometimes some vehicles appear to push forward, making the crossing even more chaotic.
According to the feedback of people living near the bridge, during rush hour or in the evening when there are many vehicles, accidents can easily happen, especially with pedestrians or motorbikes and bicycles, so it is necessary to arrange for someone to guide and coordinate.
Previously, Road Management Area III announced a ban on cars passing through the new Cau Lau Bridge (phase 2) on National Highway 1 for repairs, lasting 15 days, starting from 8:00 a.m. on March 15, and expected to last until 4:00 p.m. on March 30, 2025.

In addition to some vehicles such as trucks larger than 24 tons, semi-trailers, trailers traveling from North to South and vice versa must get on the highway at designated points, cars, passenger cars, trucks with a load capacity of less than 10 tons (from the North) can travel by sea, turn onto roads leading to National Highway 1 according to the signs or follow DT609 to the highway; vehicles can also cross Giao Thuy bridge to Nam Phuoc and vice versa.
