Group stage
In the northern qualifying round of the 2nd Vietnam Youth Student Football Tournament - 2024 THACO Cup, 9 teams were divided into 3 groups. The top teams of each group and the best second-place team will qualify for the play-off round to compete for a place in the final round. However, before the final round of matches took place, the competition was still undecided in any group.
In group A, Bac Ninh University of Physical Education and Sports is leading with 3 points, goal difference +8. Thuy Loi University is second with 3 points, goal difference +7. The bottom team Phuong Dong University has been eliminated with 0 points. In the final round taking place at 2:00 p.m. on March 1, the two teams will compete directly. The winning team will advance to the play-off round as the first team in group 1, while the second team will have to wait for the results of the remaining groups to be decided to compare points and goal difference.

In group B, Dai Nam University is leading with 4 points, goal difference +3. Second place is National Economics University with 1 point, goal difference 0. Hanoi University is at the bottom with 0 points, goal difference -3. This is the most complicated group when all 3 teams still have a chance to continue. National Economics University will face Hanoi University in the final round.
If they win by 4 goals or more (or win by 3 goals but score 4 goals or more), the National Economics University team will take the top spot from Dai Nam University. If they win but cannot equalize the goal difference, 4 points will be enough for the National Economics University team to feel somewhat secure when compared to other second-placed teams.
In case of a tie, the National Economics University team will still be in second place but will definitely be eliminated (because they only have 2 points, while the other second-place teams already have 3 points. If they lose, the National Economics University team will lose second place to the Hanoi University team.
In group C, Hanoi University of Physical Education and Sports leads with 3 points, goal difference +4. Phenikaa University has 3 points, goal difference +1. The bottom team, Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, has been eliminated with 0 points. In the final round, the two teams from Hanoi University of Physical Education and Sports will face Phenikaa. The winning team will enter the play-off round, while the losing team will have to wait to compare points and goal difference with other second-place teams.
Thrilling
With the difference in strength, the National Economics University team has a good chance of defeating the Hanoi University team in the last round. If so, the second team in group B will have 4 points. To compete for the play-off round, the second teams in group A and group C both need at least 4 points, otherwise they will be eliminated.
Thuy Loi University team is not sure of going to the next round.
In case the match between the University of Water Resources and the University of Sports and Physical Education of Bac Ninh is a draw, the losing team will soon be eliminated from the game. The risk of being eliminated is looming before the host of the northern qualifying round if they lose to the University of Sports and Physical Education of Bac Ninh tomorrow afternoon (March 1). On the contrary, the University of Sports and Physical Education of Bac Ninh will almost certainly be eliminated if they lose to the University of Water Resources.
If the match between Thuy Loi University and Bac Ninh University of Sports and Physical Education ends in a draw, it is very likely that both teams will advance. Because besides the leading team Bac Ninh University of Sports and Physical Education, the second-placed team Thuy Loi University will also have 4 points and a very high goal difference (+7). This is a goal difference that other second-placed teams will find difficult to catch up with.
The tight score and wide open opportunities for competing teams mean that the northern qualifying round of the Vietnam Youth Student Football Tournament will continue to surprise until the final match.
