On the afternoon of May 31, at the opening ceremony of a new office in Hanoi, Infineon Technologies AG - a German enterprise specializing in semiconductor solutions for power systems and IoT, announced the expansion of its operations in Vietnam and the establishment of an electronic chip development center in Hanoi.
Operating out of Infineon Vietnam’s new office in Hanoi, the chip development team is expected to have around 25 technical experts by the end of this year. This force will focus on testing and customizing digital, analog and integrated circuits, supporting autonomous driving applications, battery monitoring and balancing.
The chip development team's activities in Hanoi are managed by Infineon Technologies Vietnam, a subsidiary of Infineon Technologies Asia Pacific.
The new development center in Hanoi will help DES meet the growing demand for functional testing and custom circuit design for Infineon's system-on-chip solutions, said Hartmut Hiller, Executive Vice President, Design and Support Services (DES), Infineon Technologies AG.
The new development center in Hanoi is expected to play a key role in the growth plans of the design and support services division of Infineon Technologies AG. In the initial phase, DES will focus on its SoC expertise and capabilities, seeking experts for functional testing and custom circuit design.
These new personnel will make an important contribution to making this place an international standard research and development center, similar to Infineon's international R&D centers currently located in Munich (Germany), Villach (Austria), Bangalore (India) and Singapore.
Microcontroller chips for automotive applications are another new development activity of the Hanoi center, which will initially operate based on the experience and operations inherited from Infineon's main centers in Munich (Germany), Dublin (Ireland) and Singapore. The Hanoi microcontroller development team will initially focus on testing.
Sharing at the event, Mr. Do Nhat Hoang, Director of the Foreign Investment Agency, Ministry of Planning and Investment, said that Infineon Technologies AG's establishment of an electronic chip development center in Vietnam is a positive sign. "In the context of many difficulties, corporations are rearranging their production chains, opening up opportunities for many countries including Vietnam. Recognizing this shifting trend, we have prepared to welcome the investment wave," Mr. Do Nhat Hoang shared.
According to Mr. CS Chua, President and CEO of Infineon Technologies Asia Pacific, “Vietnam has emerged as an important player in the global value chain of the electronics industry with record investments in manufacturing in recent years. With a population of nearly 100 million and a young population structure, Vietnam is developing into a key market and becoming a priority destination for multinational corporations in search of technical talent.”
Previously, in the seminar "Strengthening investment cooperation with the Inter-University Microelectronics Center - IMEC and Vietnam" in mid-May, a representative of the Ministry of Information and Communications said that an important part of the global semiconductor supply chain involves the participation of many parties and Vietnam is oriented to become a part of this supply chain.
