Director of the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training) Nguyen Thu Thuy speaks at the seminar

The information was shared in a discussion on standardizing university and master's training programs on semiconductor microchips, organized by the Ministry of Education and Training at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry this morning (February 28).

75 training codes on semiconductor microchips

Speaking at the seminar, Director of the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training) Nguyen Thu Thuy emphasized the importance of the training program standards for semiconductor microchips - one of the strategic industries that is being strongly developed in Vietnam. This activity is part of the process of implementing important decisions of the Prime Minister on the Strategy for developing Vietnam's semiconductor industry to 2030, with a vision to 2050, as well as the Human Resource Development Program for the semiconductor industry.

Director of the Department of Higher Education Nguyen Thu Thuy said: "Semiconductors are a key industry, playing a key role in the development of high technology and the global economy. Vietnam, with the goal of becoming a center for semiconductor manufacturing and development, is gradually asserting itself in the context of fierce competition in the global semiconductor industry. To realize this goal, we cannot lack the important contribution of high-quality human resources."

On that basis, according to the Director, the Ministry of Education and Training has organized the development of training program standards for semiconductor microchips at the university and master levels. This will be a solid foundation for training institutions to implement training programs and develop a team of highly qualified human resources to serve the semiconductor industry in Vietnam.

According to the draft standard for university and master's training programs on semiconductor microcircuits of the Ministry of Education and Training, this standard program is built to apply to bachelor's, engineer's and master's degree programs specializing in semiconductor microcircuits. This program is built in accordance with the Vietnamese National Qualifications Framework. Accordingly, graduates will be awarded a bachelor's or engineer's degree level 6 or engineer's degree level 7 or master's degree in semiconductor microcircuits.

"This training program standard is built based on international standards, referring to advanced educational systems in the world and combined with practical needs in the country," the Director of the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training) added.

Also at the seminar, the Ministry of Education and Training announced a list of 75 training majors to serve human resources in the semiconductor industry. Most of the majors are in the fields of engineering technology, computers and information technology, natural sciences... These are training majors that are listed in the list of level IV training major codes issued by the Ministry and some pilot majors.

The Ministry of Education and Training organized a seminar to contribute ideas to the standardization of university and master's training programs on semiconductor microchips.

Entrance standards emphasize the importance of mathematics and natural sciences.

Notable in this draft is the entrance standards of the training program. In particular, the entrance standards clearly define the minimum requirements for qualifications, capacity and experience appropriate for university and master's training in semiconductor microcircuits. These requirements are to ensure that learners can study successfully and complete the training program well.

In particular, the subjects of admission to the bachelor's program are students who have graduated from high school or equivalent level. The knowledge block of mathematics and natural sciences (physics, chemistry) achieves an average score of 80% or higher on the assessment scale.

For students transferring from another major to study in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of this major (not final year students), at the time of consideration, they must have a transfer training major that is in or close to the group of training majors they are studying; the cumulative average score must be from 2.5 or higher and English proficiency must be at level 3/6 or higher according to the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam.

Not only the entrance exam, the minimum study volume of the training program also emphasizes the role of basic math and science knowledge. The draft clearly states that the bachelor's training program is 120 credits (not including physical education and national defense and security), the volume of subjects related to math and basic science needs to be 30 credits. In addition, practice and experimentation account for at least 25% of the credits of the professional education block. Similarly, the training program for level 6 and level 7 engineers also requires a minimum of 30 credits of basic math and science knowledge.

According to information from the Ministry of Education and Training, based on the feedback for completion, this training program standard is expected to be issued in March. From there, training institutions will implement undergraduate, master's, major-minor, dual-degree or interdisciplinary training programs on semiconductor microchips. This contributes to the development of high-quality human resources, promoting Vietnam's deep integration into the global semiconductor market.
