Users of social network X and AI chatbot Grok reported severe service disruptions. They were unable to access X or Grok.
On March 10, social network X experienced a serious service disruption across the globe, including the US, Canada, Europe, and Asia. According to the monitoring website Downdetector, the first incident occurred before 6 a.m. (local time). After a few minutes, the X website and app were back up and running. But about four hours later, the problem recurred, with about 41,000 reports on Downdetector. By 11:30 a.m., the third outage occurred.
At the time of writing, the X app is still inaccessible on mobile, or if accessible, unable to download new content. Data from Downdetector shows that more than half of the reports come from app users.
Meanwhile, on the Grok chatbot status page, xAI, the developer of the model, said grok.com and the Grok Android and iOS apps were experiencing latency and errors. “Users may notice that Grok responds slower than usual or does not respond at all,” the website said.
The development team has now found the issue and is actively working on a solution.
Elon Musk, who bought X in 2022, did not mention the incident on his personal account. Not long before, he claimed that X was “the leading news source on Earth.”
It is unclear whether the X and Grok incidents are related.
