The Food Safety Department (Ministry of Health) said it had received a report of a suspected food poisoning incident at the Song Cam Shipyard in Hai Phong City, which resulted in 127 people being hospitalized for treatment.

Accordingly, the Food Safety Department requested the Hai Phong Department of Health to urgently direct hospitals with patients being treated to focus resources on actively treating the patients.

At the same time, immediately suspend the operation of the Song Cam Shipyard's collective kitchen, organize an investigation to determine the cause of the poisoning according to regulations, trace the origin of the food, take food samples and specimens for testing to find the cause.

The Ministry of Health recommends detecting and strictly handling violations of food safety regulations (if any) and publicizing the results to promptly warn the community.

Strengthen propaganda and guidance for collective kitchens and food service establishments to ensure hygiene and food safety conditions; propagate and educate people about food safety knowledge and measures to prevent food poisoning.

The Food Safety Department also requested the Hai Phong Department of Health to report the implementation results to the Food Safety Department according to regulations.

According to the Hai Phong City People's Committee, after the June 27 lunch of Song Cam Shipbuilding Joint Stock Company in An Hong Commune, An Duong District, many workers showed symptoms of rashes, red faces, no vomiting, no diarrhea.

The total meal is 795, with dishes including: braised chicken, peanuts with oil, braised sea fish, grilled pork with betel leaves, boiled green squash, spinach soup, rice, and watermelon for dessert. These dishes are divided into two menus, of which 400 meals include: braised mackerel, grilled pork with betel leaves, green squash, spinach soup, rice, and watermelon.

The remaining meals include braised chicken, peanuts, squash, spinach soup, and watermelon provided by Thanh Hung Service Company Limited in Dang Cuong Commune, An Duong District, Hai Phong City.

This company has been granted a certificate of food safety eligibility No. 143/2024/ATTP-CNĐK dated June 13, 2024 by the City's Department of Food Safety and Hygiene.

Hai Phong City Department of Health said that at 12:22 on June 27, about 100 people had symptoms of red rash on the face, body, headache, a few cases of nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

By 4:00 p.m. the same day, a total of 127 workers had been transferred to the Vietnam-Czech Friendship Hospital, the International General Hospital and the An Duong District Medical Center for treatment and health monitoring.

At Song Cam Shipbuilding Company alone, 51 workers with mild symptoms (itching, red face, mild headache...) are being monitored at the company.

According to the investigation and quick report of Song Cam Shipbuilding Company, most of the workers with the above symptoms had eaten braised sea fish on the menu. Up to now, the health of the workers is stable, no life-threatening cases have been recorded.
