Notably, there were 31 major food poisoning cases involving over 30 people last year, mainly in collective kitchens and street food. In particular, there are street food businesses that sell large quantities but have not been inspected or controlled.
To ensure food safety, prevent food poisoning and food-borne diseases, the Food Safety Department has issued Official Dispatch No. 271/ATTP-NDTT requesting the Department of Health of provinces/cities, the Department of Food Safety of Ho Chi Minh City, the Food Safety Management Board of Da Nang City, and Bac Ninh Province to coordinate with functional units to implement a number of contents:
Units proactively develop plans and implement measures to ensure food safety, monitor risks, prevent food poisoning and foodborne diseases in accordance with the actual situation in the locality, focusing on collective kitchens in schools, industrial parks, export processing zones and street food.
On the other hand, pay attention to preventing poisoning from animals and plants containing natural toxins such as poisonous mushrooms, toads, sea urchins, puffer fish, cicada pupae, strange creatures, strange plants and fruits, etc.; alcohol containing methanol. In particular, strengthen the inspection and supervision of food safety, focusing on ready-to-eat food processing establishments, collective kitchens in industrial parks, schools and food service establishments, street food establishments, establishments producing and trading in bottled and canned drinking water.
Along with that, the units pay attention to monitoring measures and provide appropriate guidance for mobile cooking services, party meals, weddings, and crowded funerals in the management area. At the same time, the authorities are determined to strictly handle and suspend the operations of establishments that do not ensure food safety conditions.
Units shall publicize violations and results of handling violations of organizations and individuals producing and trading food on mass media to promptly warn producers, traders and the community.
