Not cutting fingernails short when in contact with cooked food can be fined up to 3 million VND

According to the Department of Food Safety (ATTP), Ministry of Health, after Tet, the seasonal food service during the festival season has many individual businesses, lacking the necessary requirements to ensure food safety.


The Department recommends that provinces and cities strengthen food safety and hygiene, especially for food businesses in festival areas.

According to the Food Safety Department, establishments or individuals providing food services that violate food safety regulations will be administratively fined 1-2 times higher than the value of the violating product for one of the following acts: using expired ingredients or ingredients that do not have an expiration date; using ingredients of unknown origin; using products from animals and plants to produce and process food without veterinary hygiene inspection or plant quarantine as prescribed by law.

Nails should be trimmed short and gloves should be worn when handling cooked or ready-to-eat foods.

Fines of 1 - 3 million VND for each of the following acts: displaying, storing food on unsanitary equipment, tools, and materials; not having enough processing, preservation, and separate tools for fresh food and processed food; processing, trading, and preservation places are infested with insects and harmful animals; people directly processing food do not wear hats, masks, do not cut their nails short, do not use gloves when in direct contact with cooked food and raw food. This fine is doubled for violating organizations.

Fines of 3 - 5 million VND for each of the following acts: failure to comply or improperly comply with the provisions of law on the 3-step food inspection regime; failure to comply or improperly comply with the provisions of law on food sample storage; unsanitary equipment, means of transport, and preservation of ready-to-eat meals and ready-to-eat foods, causing food contamination; stagnant and uncovered sewers in the store and kitchen areas; no toilets or hand-washing facilities; no tools for collecting and containing garbage and waste. For violating organizations, the fine is doubled.

People directly involved in food production and trading must be trained in food safety knowledge and must be confirmed by the owner of the establishment that they do not have cholera, dysentery, typhoid, hepatitis A, E, infectious dermatitis, tuberculosis, acute diarrhea, etc. Food processing ingredients must have a clear origin. Conduct 3-step food inspection and store food samples according to the instructions of the Ministry of Health.

From February 18, the Food Safety Department will receive and return online records on the Ministry of Health's Administrative Procedure Information System: https://dichvucong.moh.gov.vn , for 5 groups of administrative procedures: registration of health food product declaration; registration of food additive product declaration with new uses; registration of health food advertising content; issuance of food safety and GMP certificates; issuance of HC and CFS certificates.
