In the 2025 enrollment season, Hanoi Medical University plans to open two new majors: Medical Imaging Technology and Social Work. The school representative said that the admission combinations will be adjusted, because combination C00 cannot be compared with combination B00 - because there are no common subjects.
Associate Professor, Dr. Le Dinh Tung - Vice Principal of Hanoi Medical University said that the plan to open these two new majors is based on the needs of hospitals, and the income is quite attractive. This is a big difference because previously, the school mainly focused on training doctors and postgraduates. According to Mr. Tung, the two new majors are suitable for the school's infrastructure and training capacity.
Previously, in 2024, Hanoi Medical University opened 3 new majors and new combinations: Psychology, Midwifery and Dental Prosthetics. At the same time, it was also the first year that the school recruited the combination C00 (Literature, History, Geography) for Psychology and D01 (Math, Literature, English) for Psychology and Public Health, in addition to maintaining the traditional combination B00 (Math, Chemistry, Biology). At that time, the change in the admission combination brought many mixed opinions as well as attracted the attention of more students.
According to the school's explanation, Psychology is a major in the field of social and behavioral sciences, with many parts of knowledge related to social subjects. Specifically, the basic subjects that students need to study are Anthropology and Sociology of Health, Foundations of Vietnamese Culture, Education and Health Promotion, Social Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Educational Psychology, Mental Health, Psychological Counseling... Public Health is the science of disease prevention, longevity, health promotion and physical efficiency through community efforts. The school has recruited students for this major for many years, the employment rate of graduates is always 94 - 98%. Graduates mainly work for international organizations, non-governmental organizations, and projects that require a lot of English. Opening new majors and expanding admission combinations is based on the training program and the capacity requirements of all parties, including employers.
Mr. Le Dinh Tung said that the school basically maintained stable admission methods compared to last year, including direct admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) and Hanoi Medical University; considering high school graduation exam scores; considering admission combined with graduation exam scores and international foreign language certificates; considering based on the competency assessment test scores of Hanoi National University (HSA). However, it is likely that the school will have to adjust the admission combinations if the draft circular on university admission regulations of the MOET is officially issued. Because according to the draft, training institutions will have to convert the equivalent to a common score scale between the combinations and admission methods. According to Mr. Tung, it is impossible to compare combination C00 with B00 because these two combinations do not have any subjects in common.
The 2025 university entrance exam is the first one under the 2018 General Education Program (GEP) with many new points. To prepare for the very important entrance exam for the first batch of students graduating from the new program, the Ministry of Education and Training has announced a draft circular amending and supplementing the university and college admission regulations (the deadline for comments is January 22, 2025). Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy - Director of the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training) said that the regulations have technical regulations when building admission combinations for a major or a group of majors. Accordingly, the number of common subjects between the combinations must be 50% or more similar. This regulation aims to limit the "inflation" of the number of admission combinations in a major; requiring schools to propose combinations with core subjects for the training major. For example, in the engineering industry, the core subjects are Math and Physics, and it is not possible to recruit the entire C00 group (Literature, History, Geography) as in previous admission seasons.
Along with that, the Ministry of Education and Training will have some other technical adjustments in the regulations with the regulation that schools must ensure fairness between admission methods and combinations. That is, when candidates are admitted, their scores must be converted to equivalent values between admission methods and combinations. If schools consider transcripts, they must use the learning results of the entire 12th grade year, so that students do not neglect their studies in the final semester.
