The General Secretary hopes that Indonesian businesses will strive to become one of the largest investors in Vietnam, taking advantage of opportunities based on equal relationships and mutual respect.
Within the framework of his State visit to Indonesia and official visit to the ASEAN Secretariat, on the morning of March 10, in Jakarta, General Secretary To Lam attended the Business Dialogue “Vietnam and Indonesia: Partnership for Progress and Prosperity” organized by the Vietnamese Ministry of Finance, the Vietnamese Embassy in Indonesia in coordination with the Indonesia-Vietnam Friendship Association and Ciputra Group, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Indonesia diplomatic relations.
The Dialogue was attended by senior leaders, business leaders and stakeholders from Vietnam and Indonesia.
At the Dialogue, opinions said that this is an event held at a very meaningful time in the context of the two countries celebrating the 70th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations (1955-2025) and aiming to upgrade the relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
This is a historic journey, the bilateral relationship has continuously gone through many important development milestones and achieved positive progress, in which economic cooperation is the pillar with remarkable development.
Economic relations between Vietnam and Indonesia have grown strongly, with bilateral trade turnover estimated to reach US$16 billion by 2024 - up 16% year-on-year - promising to achieve the bilateral trade target of US$18 billion ahead of schedule in 2028. The opinions of businesses from both countries highlighted the results of economic cooperation, investment opportunities and strategic partnerships in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), digital economy, green energy, electric vehicles and the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP); discussed and explored food security, the Halal industry, education and maritime cooperation, reflecting the deepening relationship between the two countries; reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to promote sustainable growth, innovation and regional cooperation, paving the way for an even stronger future.
Speaking at the seminar, General Secretary To Lam emphasized that after nearly four decades of implementing the renovation, opening up and integration process, under the comprehensive leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, from a backward and underdeveloped country, Vietnam has risen to become a symbol of stability and development, a country that many world leaders have placed their trust in for a partnership towards peace and prosperity, and is always a reliable destination for international investors and tourists.
The General Secretary affirmed that the achievements were based on the spirit of patriotism, great national unity, self-reliance, and strong aspiration for independence, freedom, and happiness of the Vietnamese people; at the same time, under the wise leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, together with the drastic participation of the entire political system; the support, unanimous participation of the people, the business community, and the attention and assistance of international friends, including the significant contribution of the Indonesian Government and business community.
The General Secretary said that the potential for cooperation between the two countries still has much room, strongly promoted by the internal strength of each country and the momentum brought about by the Strategic Partnership between the two sides. This will increase consensus in each country; create conditions to mobilize and concentrate resources for important cooperation programs and plans that are mutually beneficial.
The General Secretary hopes that Indonesian businesses will continue to strive to become one of the largest investors in Vietnam, promoting advantages and taking advantage of opportunities based on an equal relationship, mutual respect and mutual benefit to match the strategic relationship between the two countries.
To achieve that goal, the General Secretary requested relevant ministries, branches and agencies of the two countries to continue to concretize major policies and orientations of the bilateral relationship; promptly support and handle difficulties and problems of investors; and continue to implement solutions to improve the investment and business environment in an open and transparent manner.
The Indonesian Government will promote and encourage Indonesian enterprises to increase investment in Vietnam, while creating conditions and continuing to support Vietnamese investors to expand their investment and business activities effectively, especially projects in the fields of science, technology and innovation.
Business organizations and associations of the two countries continue to be important bridges, connecting the business communities and relevant agencies of the two sides.
Investors from both countries will research and expand investment in sectors and fields such as science, technology, innovation, research and development; developing the chip industry, semiconductors, AI, Internet of Things (IOT); new energy (such as hydrogen), renewable energy; financial technology, financial centers; biotechnology, healthcare... These are sectors and fields in which Vietnam and Indonesia have great potential for development and are in need of attracting investment.
General Secretary To Lam affirmed that Vietnam is committed to creating all favorable conditions for effective investment and business activities, together aiming towards the sustainable development goals of both sides.
The General Secretary shared that in the process of transformation, the Party and State of Vietnam always consider the foreign investment economic sector an important component of the country's economy, contributing to promoting fundamental transformation of the economy, positively impacting economic institutional reform and innovation, improving the investment and business environment, and improving Vietnam's prestige and position in the international arena.
Vietnam always pays special attention and creates the most favorable conditions for the business community in general and foreign invested enterprises to operate effectively in Vietnam.
According to the Foreign Investment Cooperation Strategy, Vietnam has oriented to move to the cooperation phase, selectively attracting foreign investment, taking quality, efficiency, technology and environmental protection as the main evaluation criteria. The Party, State and people of Vietnam are committed to always accompany, listen, share and wish to continue to receive support and close cooperation from international friends and partners with the role of bridging and promoting foreign investors, especially Indonesian investors in the process of building and developing the country.
On this occasion, General Secretary To Lam and delegates attending the Dialogue witnessed the signing ceremony and exchange of business cooperation documents including:
Memorandum of Understanding between the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam and the LSPR Institute of Communication and Business in the field of education and training;
Memorandum of Understanding between VinFast and Bank Negara Indonesia on comprehensive strategic cooperation on green transformation solutions and long-term green finance sources;
Memorandum of Understanding between SOVICO and Ciputra Group on cooperation in developing real estate projects, smart urban areas, industrial parks, logistics and trade services in Vietnam and Indonesia;
Master Service Agreement between FPT Software and KMP Aryadhana Wisesa, Yogyakarta Sultanate on cooperation in applying AI, Blockchain, IOT for digital transformation and green transformation in waste treatment projects, productivity improvement and education;
Contract between FPT Software and Pertamina on AI application for digital transformation for the Indonesian National Oil and Gas Corporation;
Memorandum of Understanding between FPT IS and Metrodata Electronics on the establishment of FPT Metrodata Indonesia Company for cyber security services;
