In the 2025 admission season, many universities will adjust their admission combinations, with new combinations including Information Technology, creating more opportunities for candidates.
In 2025, 12th graders will take the high school graduation exam according to the 2018 General Education Program with many changes compared to 2024 and earlier.
According to regulations, students will take 4 subjects, of which two are compulsory: Math and Literature. The remaining two subjects students can choose from among the following subjects: Foreign Language, History, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economic and Legal Education, Technology and Information Technology.
Thus, from 2025, candidates can choose elective subjects without following the combination of Natural Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) or Social Sciences (History, Geography, Civic Education) as before. Notably, Information Technology is included for the first time as an elective subject in the high school graduation exam. This increases opportunities for students in choosing subjects for graduation exams and university admissions.
Up to this point, many universities have adjusted their admission combinations to include Information Technology.
According to information on the 2025 regular university enrollment plan of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, this year, the school plans to enroll 9,680 students for 65 training programs, maintain 3 enrollment methods as in previous years and add a new admission combination with code K01.
The new combination K01 includes the following subjects: Math, Literature, Physics/Chemistry/Biology/IT. Of which, Math and Literature are two compulsory subjects, combined with one of four subjects: Physics or Chemistry or Biology or IT with a coefficient.
In addition to the 4 traditional combinations of A00, A01, D01, B00, the University of Technology (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) added 2 combinations of Math, English, Informatics and Math, Physics, Informatics.
In this year's enrollment season, Hanoi University of Industry also plans to deploy new combinations of Technology and Information Technology subjects including: Math, Physics, Technology; Math, Physics, Information Technology; Math, Chemistry, Technology; Math, English, Technology.
This will be one of the combinations used to enroll in 35 majors/training programs of the school such as: Information Technology, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering Technology and Information Security...
To comply with the new high school program, in 2025, the University of Information Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University) plans to add a number of new combinations with Informatics subjects such as: Math, English, Informatics; Math, Physics, Informatics in addition to the admission combinations as in 2024.
The University of Economics and Law (Ho Chi Minh City National University) announced the 2025 enrollment orientation with 4 groups of subjects for admission, including: Math, English, Literature; Math, English, Physics; Math, English, Informatics; Math, English, Economic and Legal Education.
In particular, the school has included in the admission combination 2 new subjects of the 2018 General Education Program, including: Information Technology, Economic and Legal Education.
Similarly, in 2025, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education will adjust the admission combination to match the high school graduation exam subjects, while maintaining the admission combinations of 2024.
Accordingly, the school will adjust the combinations that are no longer suitable, such as eliminating combinations with exams in Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, etc., and adding new combinations with subjects in Economic and Legal Education, Information Technology, Technology, etc.
For the first time, Information Technology is an optional subject in the high school graduation exam, so many candidates are still hesitant in choosing this subject for the upcoming high school graduation exam.
To help students choose the right combination of subjects, including Information Technology in the 2025 high school graduation exam and the following years, Prof. Dr. Pham The Long, Editor-in-Chief of the 12th grade Information Technology textbook series, the Connecting Knowledge with Life series (Vietnam Education Publishing House) said that schools and teachers need to organize early career counseling for students so that they can better understand the professions and the role of Information Technology in many fields.
According to the regulations, students taking the 2025 high school graduation exam will take 4 subjects, with 2 compulsory subjects being Math and Literature, and 2 elective subjects from the remaining 9 subjects. There will be 36 ways to choose a combination of 4 subjects for the high school graduation exam.
With this change, many universities have had new directions in enrollment, including reducing the quota ratio for the admission method based on high school graduation exam scores.
