People's Artist Bach Tuyet advises actor Lam Nguyen at the Cai Luong Academy

Actor Lam Nguyen previously worked at the Ho Chi Minh City Small Stage Drama Theater. After many plays showing a variety of characters from comedic to tragic roles, he is currently performing at the Flat World Stage, most loved in the play "The Ghost of a Singer".

Talking about his career, actor Lam Nguyen confided: "Currently, I am planning my own projects this year and the purpose is to strengthen my acting, singing, and hosting skills as well as try to build a youthful and diverse image of myself. In addition to focusing on new roles, I also create artistic products on social networking platforms, stage and film if the opportunity comes to me."

Who is your favorite performer on the World Youth Stage right now ?

The roles at the Young World stage are all an opportunity for me to try to express myself in a diverse way, so when it comes to which role I like the most, I am a bit greedy and say that I like them all. But perhaps the role that helped me get closer to the audience and also made me struggle with the most is the role of the singer Ly Le Lan in the play "The Ghost of a Singer".

Because to replace an old crew that was too successful, I really had to find my own way of acting that would not be confused with any other actor. Besides, I had to face comparisons and evaluations at the beginning, but thanks to that, I had more motivation to renew the role in my own way.

What do you worry about the acting profession today?

I think the acting profession is now full of thorns, because the more society develops, the higher the entertainment needs of the audience, so entertainment platforms are born one after another. From here, the number of newly trained actors is also larger, which is directly proportional to the competition in the acting profession. And if an actor does not renew himself, does not create his own unique characteristics, he will certainly be eliminated very quickly. Being invited to the Cai Luong Academy project by People's Artist Bach Tuyet is something I did not expect.

Being a guest in the exchange program, sharing acting experiences with young people at the Cai Luong Academy, what do you think?

Maybe it started with my chance to work with Ms. Bach Tuyet from 2022 with the project "Come back to listen to mother's lullaby", and then the project "The last ray of light" (2023). In the nearly 2 years of accompanying her, I was fortunate to be influenced more or less by her thoughts and lifestyle. And the fact that I have been active on stage all the time is also a similarity with the direction of this project, so when I was able to participate to share, I also put myself in the mindset of a colleague with the contestants to create a certain comfort.

During the exchange, I demonstrated a part of the play "The Ghost of a Singer", hoping to contribute practical experiences for the contestants to easily visualize and apply. As a young artist, I also want to send a message to everyone like what Snow White shared with me: "Be innocent and then you will see the dawn".

The success or failure of your art depends on your heart and belief at the beginning.

Which role did you struggle with the most when performing at the Ho Chi Minh City Small Stage Theater and the Young World Stage?

It can be said that the roles that I have struggled with the most up to now are probably: Nu (play "Dad, I'm getting married" - Ho Chi Minh City Small Stage Drama Theater) and Ly Le Lan (play "The ghost of a singing actress" - Young World Stage).

The difficulty of the role of Nu is the starting point of my professional stage performance journey. Although it is not the main role, it is a role with the fate of a transgender lottery girl that I have to transform into. There are enough tragicomic elements in this role, so I was very worried when performing it.

As for the role of Ly Le Lan, as I shared, the difficulty of this role is how to transform into an arrogant, haughty leading lady who relies on her family background to always consider herself the heart of the troupe. Playing a female role is a torture, but the role has a destiny and carries a humane message, so I am very confident in transforming into it and consider it a challenge of the profession.
