Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Van Viet, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Head of the 79th Military Economic Group (15th Army Corps) said that the unit was established in 2005 in Mo Ray Commune, Sa Thay District, Kon Tum Province. In August 2009, according to mission requirements, the 79th Military Economic Group moved its station to Ngan Thuy Commune (Le Thuy). Its central political mission is to develop the socio-economy in conjunction with strengthening national defense and security in the strategic area of ​​the Southwest of Le Thuy District.

Identifying this as a difficult task, the Party Committee and the Command of the 79th Military Economic Group focused on leading the implementation of political and ideological education and assigning specific tasks to each agency, unit and individual. Despite the long marching distance, old vehicles and cumbersome equipment, the unit organized the march according to plan, ensuring absolute safety in all aspects...".

Rubber tapping at Economic-Defense Group 79.

During the days of carrying out the new mission in Quang Binh province, the unit encountered many difficulties: no accommodation, unsafe water source, harsh climate, no access to local policies and mechanisms... However, with the spirit of "Uncle Ho's soldiers", the unit focused its forces on building barracks, stabilizing accommodation; at the same time, actively coordinated with functional agencies to survey and request to convert poor forests to rubber plantations.

At the end of 2009, after the Quang Binh Provincial People's Committee agreed to convert more than 196 hectares of poor forest to rubber plantation, the unit proceeded to reclaim and construct forests, fully prepare materials and seedlings, and organize the planting of 26 hectares of rubber. From 2009 to present, based on the planning of the national defense economic zone approved by the Ministry of Defense and the land fund approved by the Provincial People's Committee for annual conversion, the unit has developed a plan to develop the rubber planting and care project on schedule. Currently, the total area of ​​rubber plantations of all kinds of the unit is more than 1,190 hectares, of which more than 1,000 hectares have been put into production and business.

In parallel with the implementation of the rubber tree development project, the unit has focused on doing well the basic construction investment and equipment procurement. Actively coordinating with the functional agencies of the Ministry of National Defense and Quang Binh province to implement project items, such as: Investing in the construction of barracks with an area of ​​nearly 6,000m ² ; 7 power projects with a total length of 45km and 12 transformer stations; nearly 16km of asphalt and concrete roads; 1 combined spillway with a length of 13m; 7 kindergartens with a total area of ​​over 1,320m ² ; 1 military-civilian infirmary with a total area of ​​604m ² ...

“The projects put into use have contributed to improving the quality of the local infrastructure system, bringing practical benefits to people in the project area; at the same time serving production and people's lives, creating favorable conditions for people to work and stabilize their lives…”, the Head of Economic-Defense Group 79 shared.

Implement social security policy well

Head of the 79th Economic-Defense Group Hoang Van Viet added that identifying social security work and supporting people in Lam Thuy, Kim Thuy, and Ngan Thuy communes to develop production is an extremely important task; at the same time, expressing affection and gratitude to the Bru-Van Kieu people in the mountainous communes. After nearly 16 years of performing tasks in Quang Binh province, the unit has recruited many local workers, including 76 ethnic minorities. Here, each worker is assigned from 3.5 to 4.5 hectares of rubber with an average income of direct workers reaching over 8 million VND/person/month...

“The Party Committee and the Command Board of the unit always thoroughly grasp and effectively implement resolutions and directives from above; strictly comply with regulations on training and combat readiness, organize military training for subjects with the correct and complete content of the prescribed program; maintain the order of command duty, combat duty, and combat readiness; manage and use national defense land for the right purposes, without disputes or encroachment; coordinate to maintain political security, social order and safety, and rural security in the area where the unit is stationed…”, Head of the 79th Economic-Defense Group Hoang Van Viet added.

With the motto of developing production to where, building residential areas to there, the unit has formed 5 residential areas associated with 5 production teams, including 26 households of Van Kieu ethnic group, each household is supported by the state with 20 million VND to build houses; at the same time, the unit has built agricultural models with an area of ​​nearly 270 hectares, 1 model of breeding heifers with a scale of 50 cows; invested in building nurseries and kindergartens to ensure the education and care of children of cadres, employees, and workers in the unit...

On the other hand, Economic-Defense Group 79 coordinated with local Party committees and authorities to propagate and mobilize people to strictly comply with the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's laws and policies; organized to connect 35 pairs of ethnic minority and Kinh households; invested in building 1 community cultural house, 12 gratitude houses, and "Great Unity" houses; built and donated a community activity house in Ngu Thuy Nam commune; 1 playground and community activity area in village 14 (Ngan Thuy commune); supported the purchase of equipment for Duong Thuy Kindergarten; donated 181 breeding cows to poor and near-poor households; invested in 1.5km of solar-powered electricity; actively participated in activities "Repaying gratitude", Day for the poor... The total budget for social activities is more than 6 billion VND and more than 12 tons of rice...
