The four male students who will compete in the final round of Road to Olympia 23 are Nguyen Viet Thanh (Soc Son High School, Hanoi), Nguyen Minh Triet (Quoc Hoc High School for the Gifted - Thua Thien Hue), Le Xuan Manh (Ham Rong High School, Thanh Hoa), and Nguyen Trong Thanh (Tran Phu High School for the Gifted, Hai Phong).
Highest scoring male student of the year
Nguyen Trong Thanh, class 12 English 1, Tran Phu High School for the Gifted, Hai Phong, won overwhelmingly in the fourth quarter exam of the program Road to Olympia with 330 points, winning the last ticket to the final round.
Trong Thanh believes that Olympia is a playground for knowledge, so there is no better preparation than reading textbooks carefully and watching newspapers and TV. At the same time, he connects with friends who share the same passion to practice. From the end of 10th grade until now, Thanh plays an average of one match a day. If he encounters questions that he cannot answer, he will write them down and spend time to learn them when he has free time.

"From an unknown sentence, when looking it up, it will reveal many other problems. I learn a lot each time like that," Thanh said.
As an English major, the student from Hai Phong found himself strong in language, history, and social studies. Thanh often scored well on questions in this area, which once became a turning point, helping him reach the finals.
In the fourth quarter competition, the male student accelerated impressively in front of his friend Dang Khoa's constant pursuit. At the end of the Acceleration competition, Thanh scored 180 points, Khoa 170 points. As the first contestant to reach the finish line, Thanh won all 70 points, bringing his total score to 250, Dang Khoa was also full of hope with 220 points. However, in the competition of the last contestant, Thanh won the right to answer two questions, achieving a total of 330 points and winning the laurel wreath.
As the contestant with the least time to prepare for the final, Thanh admitted that he had some difficulties. From now until the weekend, Thanh prioritizes reading newspapers and watching the news, not trying to cram knowledge from books but focusing on practicing his reflexes in answering questions.
Olympia final after 300 practice matches
Nguyen Viet Thanh, a 12th grader at Soc Son High School (Hanoi), won an overwhelming victory in the first quarter, becoming the first contestant to win a ticket to the final round of the Road to Olympia with 325 points. Thanh said that in addition to luck, this was the result of a year of training with nearly 300 practice matches.
For a long time, Viet Thanh had the view that learning one thing deeply was better than knowing a little bit about each thing. He felt that he was not suitable for Olympia - a playground that requires knowledge in many fields. However, when he entered Soc Son High School and learned about the school's Olympia Club (OSS), Thanh gradually had a different view of this program. He realized that "diverse knowledge helps me respond more quickly" and set a goal to participate in Olympia.

In addition to the Olympia Soc Son Club, Viet Thanh also joined the community of former contestants and students who wanted to participate in this program. During his 10th grade year, Thanh maintained a weekly practice match with his clubmates and competed with members of the Olympia community. "Last summer, on a quiet day, I played 4-5 matches, on a busy day, 9-10 matches. In total, I played about 300 practice matches," Thanh calculated.
Not every student who submits an application to participate in Olympia will become a contestant, so when he received the invitation to record from the organizing committee in November 2022, Thanh burst into joy. However, the male student only had four days to prepare, and the weekly, monthly, and quarterly competition schedule took place over three consecutive days.
In each match, the male student from Soc Son High School showed a calm and confident playing style. On screen, the audience rarely saw Thanh show emotions, even when he won points, but the male student said that before the program started, he was so nervous that he couldn't eat, had a dry cough and tears. To regain his spirit, Thanh thought about losing. "When I thought about the worst outcome, I felt more motivated, calm and determined to prevent that from happening," Thanh said.
The male student assessed that he was strong in questions about History, Society and General Knowledge. This was most clearly demonstrated in each round of the exam.
Thanh's idols at the show Road to Olympia are Ha Viet Hoang, a former student of Soc Son High School, who was a finalist in Olympia in 2017, Phan Dang Nhat Minh and Nguyen Hoang Khanh, two champions in 2017 and 2021.
The male student shared and learned from his seniors' calm playing style and diverse knowledge. In addition to studying and practicing for Olympia, in his free time, Thanh plays soccer, watches the news and reads books. He often reads famous literary works, most of all "A Fierce Childhood" by author Phung Quan, and science books.
Determined to win the laurel wreath
Nguyen Minh Triet, class 12 Physics, Quoc Hoc High School for the Gifted, Thua Thien Hue, won convincingly in the second quarter match of the program Road to Olympia with 290 points. The moment he knew he was in the final match, Triet cried.
"Olympia is an opportunity for me to develop my potential, and is also a memorable experience and memory of my student days," he once said.
The Hue boy admits that he is strong in questions about sports, art, music and social knowledge. This is clearly shown in each part of the test that Triet goes through, he rarely misses questions in these areas.

The most meaningful moment for Triet was in the quarter-final round, when he answered "Nguyen An Ninh", winning 30 points with the question of the author of the essay "Mother Tongue - The Source of Liberation for Oppressed Nations" in another contestant's Finish Package. At that time, Triet was leading with a gap of 40 points over the second person. With the additional 30 points, Triet widened the gap to 70, while there were only two questions left with a total of 60 points.
To prepare for the final, Triet focused a lot of time studying the recent finals, maintaining the habit of reading newspapers and watching news to supplement his social knowledge and improve his English ability. He will also seek the support of teachers and seniors to study more effectively. To balance, Triet still maintains his hobbies of listening to music, reading books and meeting friends.
Mr. Hoang Linh, Minh Triet's homeroom teacher at Quoc Hoc High School for the Gifted, said that since entering 10th grade, Triet has made an impression because he has a good memory, loves to learn new knowledge and is always eager to improve in his studies. Triet is good at natural sciences, especially Physics.
Initially, teacher Linh intended to guide Triet to join the Physics team, but when the student competed in the school Olympia, the teacher assessed that this male student had broad social knowledge, suitable for this playground.
Although not a class monitor, the male student actively participates in movement activities, likes football and arts.
Holds the score record
Le Xuan Manh, grade 12, Ham Rong High School, Thanh Hoa Province, won a dramatic victory in the third quarter competition of the Road to Olympia program with 160 points. After 12 years, Thanh Hoa has had a student participating in the Olympia finals, this is also the first time Ham Rong High School has had students participating in this playground.
Up to this point, Manh still holds the record for the highest total score in a match on Road to Olympia 23 with 345 points in the match of week 3, month 1, quarter 3 (April 24, 2023).
"When I submitted my application, I just wanted to get through the week round, and even thought that if I lost, I wouldn't lose too badly. Playing in the finals was a result beyond my expectations," Manh said.

The Thanh Hoa student decided to compete in Olympia quite late. While many candidates set their goals from middle school, Manh only thought about this at the end of 10th grade. At that time, he had just participated in the knowledge contest "Echoes of Thanh Hoa", achieved good results and wondered "Why not try your hand at a bigger playground?".
In the weekly and monthly competitions, with just one hint, the male student from Ham Rong School answered the keywords correctly in the Obstacle Course competition, creating a gap in scores with his fellow contestants. However, Manh said that this was not his forte, and he was lucky because the answer came from a sudden thought.
To prepare for the Road to Olympia contest, Xuan Manh often won points in questions in the fields of Literature, History, and general knowledge thanks to his good memory.
Mr. Duong Van Hanh, a math teacher and homeroom teacher at Xuan Manh, assessed his student's advantage as his desire to learn. Manh is studying for the math team, but the teacher "always feels that Manh can major in any subject" because he studies well, has good memory and knowledge base, and a serious attitude towards learning.
Manh is also active in school activities and enthusiastic with his friends. He balances well between studying and entertainment, so he is not a "bookworm".
Self-assessing that his mentality was not stable, English and Physics and Chemistry practice questions were his weaknesses, the Thanh Hoa male student also practiced more to improve his competitive spirit, practiced listening to foreign languages, reviewed practice instructions in textbooks, and on Youtube.
