Sharing with Thanh Nien at the examination site of Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Sciences, where the second round of the competency assessment exam was held on the morning of June 2, N.D - a student of the Gifted High School (Ho Chi Minh City National University) - said that she had been admitted to Knox College (USA) since December 2023. However, because she wanted to "secure a place" at a school in Vietnam if she unfortunately failed the visa, the female student still registered to take two competency assessment exams, in April and June.
"Before that, in 11th grade, I also took the SAT (a standardized test used by many American universities for admission) and IELTS to prepare for my study abroad application," N.D added.
Candidate taking second round of competency assessment: 'I think this time the score will be very high'
Trong Tan, a high school student in District 5 (HCMC), was also admitted early to a private university in HCMC through the method of considering his academic records. However, because he wanted to aim for the "top" universities in HCMC such as Bach Khoa and Khoa Khoa Nhat Hanh to pursue computer science, the male student continued to take the second round of the competency assessment exam with the hope of improving his score, aiming for over 900.

Many candidates also see the second round as an opportunity to improve their scores, helping them get into a better school. Dang Kim Truc, a student at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, expects to score more than 900 points in the second round, after scoring more than 850 points in the first round. "I want to study computer science at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, so I need the highest score possible. In the first round, I took extra classes, and in the second round, I just studied at home," Truc said.
Meanwhile, Tran Ha Uyen Nhi and Nguyen Minh Tien, both students at the Gifted High School, both hope to achieve scores in the range of 900-1,000, about 100 points higher than their first round exam results. "We started reviewing after completing the first semester, mainly self-studying," the two students shared.
Similarly, PTT, who studied at the same school, set a goal of over 1,000 points to have the opportunity to become a new student majoring in information technology at the University of Natural Sciences, Ho Chi Minh City, after achieving nearly 900 points in the first round. Tran Hanh Vy, a student at the Practicing High School (Ho Chi Minh City University of Education), hopes to get over 900 points to be admitted to the Faculty of Medicine, Ho Chi Minh City National University. "I mainly find exam questions online and solve them myself," Vy said.
