This morning (February 12), Ho Chi Minh City National University held a workshop on "Admission methods and capacity assessment exams at Ho Chi Minh City National University in 2025". The workshop was attended by more than 1,800 delegates, leaders, specialized staff of 26 Departments of Education and Training and principals of more than 470 high schools nationwide.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai, Vice President of Ho Chi Minh City National University (HCMC National University), said that 2025 marks an important period in the innovation of Vietnam's education system. The comprehensive implementation of the 2018 General Education Program is creating fundamental changes in teaching methods and student assessment, especially in assessing students' abilities more comprehensively. University and college admission regulations are also being adjusted to suit the changes in the education system and the needs of society.
"Innovation in admission methods is not only an inevitable requirement but also the responsibility of higher education institutions to select suitable candidates for university and college education while also orienting high school students to study effectively and improve their capacity to meet the increasing demands of the labor market," emphasized Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai.
According to Professor Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai, since 2018, Ho Chi Minh City National University has implemented a competency assessment exam as a modern and comprehensive admission method. After 7 years of organization, the exam has affirmed its superiority, becoming a reliable admission method, trusted by universities, colleges, candidates and parents nationwide. In 2024, the exam expanded its organization to 26 provinces/cities, attracting more than 100,000 candidates to participate. More than 100 universities and colleges have used the exam results in admission.

Sharing about the enrollment target for 2025, Dr. Ton Duong Thai Duong said that VNU-HCM is implementing the enrollment process in the direction of integrating many criteria to recruit candidates with comprehensive capacity suitable for the training goals of the industry and profession. In addition, it continues to innovate and develop the VNU-HCM's capacity assessment exam to become an important exam to use as a general orientation in enrollment work at units under VNU-HCM.
With the above goal, Dr. Thai Duong said that from 2025, Ho Chi Minh City National University will implement 3 university admission methods including: Direct admission; Admission based on the results of the capacity assessment exam organized by Ho Chi Minh City National University; Admission based on the results of the high school graduation exam. Units are encouraged to develop combined admission methods.
Specifically about the 2025 enrollment method, Dr. Thai Duong said there are 3 integrated trends in the enrollment method of Ho Chi Minh City National University.
The first is direct admission with a maximum quota of 15%. This admission method integrates many criteria with high school academic results.
The second is admission based on the results of the competency assessment test, with a minimum quota of 20% and no maximum limit. The results of this test can be used for admission based on the integration of multiple criteria, but the competency assessment test score must have a weight of 50% or more.
Third is admission based on high school graduation exam results, with quotas based on actual implementation. The results of this exam can also be considered for admission based on multiple criteria, in which high school graduation exam results must have a weight of 50%.
