That is the message that the Ambassador of Green Vietnam - Miss H'Hen Nie, along with representatives of many businesses and organizations that are practicing ESG criteria, aiming for the NetZero goal, brought to the attendees of the Green Vietnam Festival 2024.

It is no coincidence that the talk show series of this year's Green Vietnam program begins with the theme "Correctly classified waste - Waste is a resource" and continues with the story "Business and sustainable development solutions".

Strong ESG practices in business

Because as H'Hen Nie's message says: To move towards a Green Vietnam and achieve the NetZero goal set by the Government, everyone must work together, every business and every citizen must work together to reach the common goal.

At the talk show, Ms. Nguyen Trinh Thuy Trang - Deputy General Director of Coteccons - said that Coteccons is committed to applying ESG (Environment, Social and Corporate Governance) standards throughout its entire value chain.

In particular, this contractor has actively implemented many ESG solutions, from using renewable energy sources and reducing carbon emissions, to applying the 3R model (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle).

According to Ms. Trang, these efforts also extend to Coteccons' partners and subcontractors, who not only share the same commitment to environmental protection as the company but also provide sustainable products and services that meet strict standards.

Among Coteccons' activities, the GreenUP Marathon: Long An Half Marathon 2024, organized by Coteccons in collaboration with Tuoi Tre newspaper and other organizing units, has also brought positive results.

Thereby promoting the maximum use of recycled materials from construction materials to minimize the use of disposable materials, at the same time runners also become ambassadors to spread green lifestyle, contributing to the tree planting fund of GreenUP Marathon.

Mr. Chaturon Thipphiansak - Deputy General Director of SCG Vietnam Co., Ltd. - shared about a series of solutions that the company is striving to implement to reduce carbon.

In which, member companies of SCG Group together implement the 3G principle: Green People, Green Process and Green Products.

Along with activities of planting 1 billion trees and encouraging each employee to practice green living, SCG promotes investment in technology to reduce carbon emissions, utilize biomass energy instead of fossil fuels, reduce energy loss with waste heat collection systems during production, and install rooftop solar panels at manufacturing plants.

In particular, the company also researches and produces more environmentally friendly product lines, including green cement lines, SCG colored tiles certified by Singapore Green Label, or super thin, lightweight brick products that help reduce material and energy consumption by up to 40%.

In the petrochemical and packaging industries, SCG has also made new strides in the greening process by focusing on environmentally friendly polymer solutions that help reduce material usage and are better recyclable, capable of decomposing into environmentally benign substances such as water, biomass and organic compounds...

Another company, INSEE Vietnam, also introduced many of its greening solutions to attendees.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tron - Head of Environmental Management and Compliance Department - said that 100% of INSEE's cement products have been granted the "Green Label" certification by the Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) - a prestigious organization in the field of evaluating environmentally friendly products.

Over the years, the company has continuously sought alternative material solutions, utilizing fly ash and slag by-products from steel and thermal power production; applying heat recovery technology from furnaces to help reduce 20% of electricity from the national grid...

To date, INSEE Vietnam is the first cement manufacturer in Vietnam to be awarded the International Environmental Declaration (EPD) Certificate from EPD - Sweden.

This is one of the most prestigious and rigorous certifications available today, requiring products to comply with strict standards for minimizing environmental impact throughout the product life cycle, from production, use to recycling.

Ms. Truong Thanh Thuy, project director of PRO Vietnam Packaging Recycling Alliance, said that PRO Vietnam's goal is to have 100% of packaging participating in the alliance recycled. In 2023, PRO Vietnam recycled 14,000 tons of packaging, the target for 2024 is 64,000 tons - Photo: THANH HIEP

Sharing about the unit's efforts to reduce emissions, Mr. Le Viet Dong Hieu - Head of Sustainable Development Department, Duy Tan Plastic Company - said that in 2021, the company started building a plastic recycling plant, becoming a pioneer in the circular economy when collecting plastic bottles and recycling them into new plastic bottles.

The factory is currently collecting 92,900 tons of plastic waste, equivalent to 7.1 billion plastic bottles. The goal is to collect 100,000 tons of plastic each year to increase the number of plastic bottles recovered.

Waste classification at source is the key to recycling, for a green Vietnam

According to Mr. Le Viet Dong Hieu - representative of Duy Tan Plastics, in order for the plastic bottle recycling plants that Duy Tan is operating to be able to operate, waste classification at the source is the key. Because only with waste classification can there be recycling.

This is when the role of each consumer, each citizen, who directly uses the product and sorts waste at home, is needed.

The reigning Miss Environment World 2023 Nguyen Thanh Ha shared that she observed that waste classification in schools and at home is still not implemented.

Besides, a difficulty for young people like her is how to limit ordering food outside through applications.

I sometimes find myself abusing technology and forgetting to eat family meals, and with the habit of ordering food, I leave a lot of plastic waste after each meal. During COVID-19, when all the restaurants were closed, I started cooking for myself, which helped save money and reduce a lot of plastic waste.

Participating in the Green Vietnam Festival, Miss Universe H'Hen Nie shared that the goal of Net Zero by 2050 is a journey that requires the companionship and efforts of the whole community.

According to her, protecting the environment and living a green lifestyle is not the responsibility of any one person, but the mission of each individual and each member of society. "Everyone has a role in building a sustainable future, aiming for the opportunity of a better living environment for future generations," she shared.

In particular, H'Hen called on young people to share the same aspirations, starting with the simplest actions such as limiting plastic bags when going to the market or shopping, actively participating in green community activities such as planting forests and protecting nature.

She presented an image of the end of the year: After the splendid fireworks displays is a scene of a messy landfill - a scene that if we join hands and are more conscious, we can easily change.

H'Hen also encourages young people to proactively learn to better understand the responsibility of protecting the environment.

Every part of Vietnam is our common home. The responsibility of keeping the country green, clean and beautiful is everyone's responsibility.

At the talk show with the theme "Correctly classifying garbage - Garbage is a resource", Mr. Nguyen Luong Ngoc - head of the Saigon Xanh Club - with the activity of collecting garbage, turning garbage-filled canals into green canals said that they have continuously shared garbage collection videos on social networking platforms to spread green living awareness to the community.

"Up to now, there have been more than 3 billion views of these videos along with more than 3,000 tons of garbage collected from 300 canals in Ho Chi Minh City.

Saigon Xanh also came up with the initiative to build buoys to block trash from the source to separate the trash, helping local people visualize how difficult it is to clean up trash and from there have their own feelings about littering," he shared.
