The prolonged heat in recent days has increased the demand for cooling foods, especially fruits. The cooling fruit market has become more vibrant, leading to higher prices.

This hot season, many lemon and kumquat farmers are excited because of the good harvest and high prices. Because of the hot season, market demand increases, so the price of kumquat is also high, traders buy everything as soon as they are harvested. Accordingly, since the beginning of the year, kumquats have been purchased by traders at the garden at a price of 10,000-15,000 VND/kg.

Having 5 hectares of kumquat trees, Ms. Le Thi Diem My (Hoa Binh commune, Tra On district, Vinh Long province) said: “This year the price of kumquat is high, I cut and sell 80-100kg every day, the price is from 10,000-12,000 VND/kg, after deducting expenses, I still have a good profit of 700,000-1,000,000 VND. The current price of kumquat has doubled compared to last year, I am very happy”.

Similarly, for about 2 months now, Mr. Le Van Thoai (Long My commune, Mang Thit district, Vinh Long province) has also been excited because purple lemon has just had a good season and good price, with an average yield of 800-1,000 kg of fruit/cong.

Farmers growing cooling fruits in Vinh Long have better incomes thanks to the high prices of lemons and kumquats during the hot season.

“I have 3.5 hectares of lemon trees. Last year, during the dry season, lemons cost 12,000-15,000 VND/kg. This year, lemons cost 22,000-23,000 VND/kg. After deducting all expenses, I still make a profit of 10 million VND/hectare/harvest,” Mr. Thoai happily said.

In addition, coconut, cantaloupe, watermelon, etc. are also in high demand, with prices at quite high levels. According to many retailers, the purchasing power of cooling fruits has also increased by 20-30% compared to normal days.

Specifically, fresh coconut is consumed quite a lot, the selling price has increased slightly, from 8,000-15,000 VND/fruit, cantaloupe 12,000-15,000 VND/kg, pineapple 25,000-35,000 VND/fruit, orange 35,000-50,000 VND/kg, melon 60,000-80,000 VND/kg...

While chopping coconuts for customers to take away, Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh - a coconut seller in Ward 4 (Vinh Long City) said: "For about 2 months now, the demand for fresh coconuts has increased sharply, no matter how many coconuts are brought back, they are sold out. On average, about 200 fruits are sold per day. Besides customers who choose to buy individual fruits from 8,000-12,000 VND/fruit depending on size, there are also many customers who choose to buy the whole stand, I also deliver coconuts to customers.

I also cut coconuts in advance and put them in bags for customers to take home at a price of 10,000 VND/bag. This year, the heat wave came early and lasted long, so purchasing power has increased compared to last year. Since the heat wave started, although the work has been harder, the income has doubled compared to normal days."

Mr. Nguyen Gia Khiem - owner of Gia Khiem fruit warehouse (Long Phuoc commune, Long Ho district) said: "During the hot season, I import cooling fruits such as oranges, cantaloupe, yellow Thai melon, cantaloupe... The retail purchasing power of these items has increased a lot compared to normal days, and there are also more customers buying goods."

While choosing to buy 10kg of oranges at 8,000 VND/kg, Ms. Luu Thi Yen Nhu (Ward 3, Vinh Long City) said: "The weather is hot, so I often choose to buy cooling and thirst-quenching fruits to ensure the health of family members."

During this time, the demand for ordering refreshing drinks through online ordering channels has also increased. Mr. Pham Minh Huy, a shipper of an online food and beverage ordering application in Vinh Long City, said that the number of orders for refreshing drinks, milk tea, lemon tea, mulberry tea, juices, etc. has increased by about 20-30%, especially during the peak noon time.

According to many traders and farmers, from now until about April-May, which is the peak of the hot season, cooling fruits will continue to be consumed strongly, and prices of these items are forecasted to remain high.
