Tuoi Tre Online readers shared that they were moved to tears, happy, and felt very warm on Tet holiday… when they learned about the poor circumstances of the woman - the owner of 1.5 million VND wrapped in notebook paper, along with the act of love and kindness of the community.
'Going to the Tet market: bananas, areca nuts, vegetables, 10kg of sticky rice' and 1.5 million wrapped in notebook paper
The story took place on January 27 (December 28, year of the Dragon), Ms. Le Thi Thanh Thuy (42 years old, residing in Tan Mach village, Vinh Thai commune, Vinh Linh district, Quang Tri) picked up 1.5 million VND on the street.
The money was wrapped in a piece of student notebook paper, torn diagonally with a scribbled note about the Tet market, including: "bananas + areca nuts, betel, vegetables + 10kg of sticky rice". Feeling that this could be a warm Tet, a large sum of money for the person who lost it, Ms. Thuy asked the Vinh Thai Commune Police to find the person who dropped it.
On the night of January 27, Vinh Thai Commune Police went to the house of Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa (55 years old, residing in Tan Mach village) and determined that this was the person who lost it and returned it.
Ms. Hoa said she went to buy candy and then burn incense and lost the money. She also produced a notebook that exactly matched the lost piece of paper.
The story did not end there when the community realized the difficult situation of Mrs. Hoa. In the house, there was an elderly person lying on the floor (due to a congenital disability, unable to lie on a high bed, not ensuring safety) in the cold of nearly 14 degrees Celsius, a small child in grade 3-4 (grandchild) and Mrs. Hoa "with a haggard figure, optimistic smile".
When the video of Ms. Hoa's situation was posted on social media by the commune police, without anyone telling them, everyone shared the same sentiment, donating some to the account of the head of Vinh Thai commune police.
By New Year's Eve, the amount of money Vinh Thai commune received was more than 100 million VND. Vinh Thai commune police will publicize the list of donors after the bank reopens.
