This is the 5th year that the Vietnam Journalists Association has directed the Journalists & Public Opinion newspaper to organize this meaningful event with the desire to create a useful professional playground for photojournalists nationwide.
Honoring the spirit of dedication and bravery...
That is the highlight of the "Press Moment" Photo Award and also the purpose of the Organizing Committee of the Press Gala of the Journalist & Public Opinion Newspaper. With the desire to find impressive press photo works, discover and honor impressive and profound perspectives; honor photos that have the power to evoke emotions and thoughts; and positively inspire the community, the "Press Moment" Photo Award of the Journalist & Public Opinion Newspaper has contributed to encouraging, honoring, praising and motivating journalists nationwide.
Starting from 2019 until now, the "Press Moments" Photo Contest has gone through 5 seasons with a strong mark of dedication, devotion, sophistication and responsibility for the profession of journalists.
As shared by journalist Le Tran Nguyen Huy - Head of the Organizing Committee of the Award, Member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Journalists Association, Editor-in-Chief of the Journalists & Public Opinion Newspaper: “ We understand that behind each photo is a story told through images, vividly reflecting hot, current events that are of special interest to the public. Our Organizing Committee highly appreciates the contributions of journalists, their experience, and their dedication to their profession that have brought to this contest impressive, quality moments…”.

This year's "Press Moments 2022" photo contest, launched from June 1, 2023 to September 30, 2023, has attracted a large number of authors from central and local press agencies to participate in the contest. The organizing committee has received hundreds of works with thousands of photos reflecting diverse slices of all aspects of the country's economic, political and social life over the past year. The richness of content and diversity of topics have shown and reflected part of the country's political, economic, social and cultural life...
With this playground, photojournalists had the opportunity to demonstrate their professional skills as well as their perspectives on political, economic, cultural and social life. Thereby, promoting the exchange of professional journalistic activities, encouraging innovation, creativity and new perspectives on photojournalism.
With a spirit of fair and serious work, the Jury has selected 42 quality works for the Photo Exhibition list. From this list, the Jury continues to select the best works to award according to the following categories: Current Affairs Category: 1 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze; Social Life Category: 1 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze; Sports Category: 1 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze. Dividing the categories to award prizes is one of the new points of this year's Award Ceremony with the desire for the award to become more and more professional, keeping up with the development flow of domestic and international press photography.
Looking forward to new seasons
2023 is a year of countless fluctuations in global political and economic life. Therefore, our country's economy is doubly affected by unfavorable external factors and internal limitations and shortcomings that have lasted for many years, which are more clearly exposed in difficulties. The press has also experienced a year of many challenges as it continues to face the rapid development of technology. The rise of AI technologies is both an opportunity but also causes traditional press to face many challenges due to the story of technology, human resources, etc. The increasingly fierce competition from multimedia platforms is making the problem of press economics increasingly difficult for many newsrooms.
This year, the theme “Awakening Courage” was chosen for the 5th Press Gala as a meaningful message to journalists: “The more difficult the situation, the more we need to hone our courage; the more challenging the situation, the more we must strive to maintain our faith.”

Regarding the “Press Moments” photo contest, experts believe that there are still too few professional playgrounds for quality and prestigious press photography, seemingly unable to meet the needs of press photojournalists, and unable to keep up with the development of domestic and international press photography. Meanwhile, press photography is an important genre, “a picture is worth a thousand words”, with information value many times greater than written words… And that poses for the journey after 5 years both a challenge and an opportunity for the Organizing Committee of the “Press Moments” Photo Contest to innovate and be more creative in organizing the Contest in the coming time.
Head of the Organizing Committee Le Tran Nguyen Huy affirmed: “ 5 years have ended and also opened up the desire for the journey towards innovations in the organization and the rules of the Award to aim for a more prestigious and larger-scale Award. We believe and hope that, continuing that journey with a vibrant and creative atmosphere, the “Press Moments” Photo Award will better fulfill its role and mission as a unique professional playground, spreading and honoring the creativity and dedication of journalists and will receive more participation from photographers from all press agencies across the country.”
The expectation of expanding the scale of the National Photo Contest is a desire that carries a sense of responsibility from the Organizing Committee. However, to achieve that, along with this effort, there must be a joint effort from press agencies and press leaders in paying more attention to the photojournalist force, through training programs to improve professional skills, and retraining so that Vietnamese press photography can increasingly catch up with the thinking of world press photography.
It can be said that, continuing the journey after 5 years, the "Press Moments" Photo Award of the Journalist & Public Opinion Newspaper will continue to make constant efforts to improve and innovate to always be a unique professional playground, spreading and honoring the creativity and dedication of journalists.
