(CLO) Sweaty backs and sunburnt faces are the images of workers participating in the 500kV line 3 project - with their solidarity, unity and determination to complete the pole erection and wire pulling work to bring the project to the finish line on schedule. Accompanying the project's routes is the figure of photojournalist Huy Hung - VNA - he is there to capture valuable moments in a key national project.
The work "Racing" on the construction site of the 500kV line circuit 3 by author Huy Hung - Vietnam News Agency has excellently won the Gold Prize in the Social Life category at the 2024 Press Moments Photo Award organized by the Journalist & Public Opinion Newspaper. The work has recorded valuable moments of a key national project with the participation of the entire political system.
"Reality records" in 9 provinces where the project passes through
Carrying the historic mission of bringing electricity to the North to contribute to ensuring electricity supply, more than 15,000 cadres, workers, engineers and laborers participating in the 500kV line 3 Quang Trach - Pho Noi project are racing against time, with the same determination to complete the project according to the Prime Minister's request.
At the construction sites of the 500kV line 3 Quang Trach - Pho Noi in June 2024, workers are working hard under the scorching summer sun. This year's weather is unusual, sometimes with torrential rain and lightning, sometimes with continuous scorching heat above 32-38 degrees Celsius, but it still cannot stop the determination of the workers who are working day and night on the construction site.
In June 2024, thousands of engineers, electrical workers and contractors are racing against time in the sun and rain at the construction site of the 500kV Line 3 from Quang Trach (Quang Binh) to Pho Noi (Hung Yen).
Assessing the importance of the 500kV transmission line project, circuit 3, Quang Trach - Pho Noi, right from the first days when the project started, reporter Huy Hung - VNA promptly grasped information, carried out special topics and photo reports when the project was still in the stage of digging foundations and preparing poles.
"As a reporter following the industry, along with the maximum support of colleagues and the investor (EVN), I was able to promptly grasp information, so that I could outline effective business trips. I better understood the most important times and stages of the project, so that I could be present in time to report on the event," Huy Hung shared.
On each business trip, after consulting and working with project management units, photojournalist Huy Hung outlines in detail which province he will work in, what time (early morning, noon, night), the scene, the context (plains, mountains, rivers, lakes...), contacts the project construction units in advance, to proactively schedule work time, as well as accurately locate the location where he will work.
"Because the power lines often go into remote, deserted areas, without guidance, it will take a long time to reach the construction site. Usually, each business trip in the northern provinces lasts 3 days, in the central provinces (Nghe An - Ha Tinh) it usually lasts 5 days. From January to July 2024, on average, I made 2 business trips per month, going to dozens of communes and wards of 9 provinces where the power line project passes through," said reporter Huy Hung.
"Capture" typical moments of the spirit of "overcoming the sun and overcoming the rain"
"For us - photojournalists, the most difficult sections are where we choose to work, because that is where we have the material to express the spirit of "3 shifts, 4 teams", "overcoming the sun, overcoming the rain", "eating quickly, sleeping urgently", working continuously 24/7 of the workers constructing circuit 3", Huy Hung shared.
The workers have almost no time to rest, except when it rains heavily or the sun is too hot. Many sections and pole positions are located halfway up the mountain, making it very difficult to reach, forcing reporter Huy Hung to walk for nearly an hour to reach the position.
PTC4 workers are working at column 360 (Nghi Loc, Nghe An) on the Quang Trach-Quynh Luu section.
Huy Hung said, typically the pole positions are located on the Hoanh Son range in Ky Anh town, Ha Tinh province, where the weather is harsh, with torrential rain, wind that stings the face, and sun that burns the skin, most workers have to take advantage of the opportunity to eat and rest right at the pole position. Also at pole position number 19, located on the Hoanh Son range (Ky Anh, Ha Tinh), he "lost" a flycam while it was being worked on and was blown away by the wind.
Or like the location of column 313, in Nam Dan district, Nghe An - the terrain is also particularly difficult for the 500kV Quang Trach - Quynh Luu power line project as it is located deep in the mountains, the road to the location is a construction road, steep, deep in the forest, if traveling by specialized vehicle it takes nearly 30 minutes, if it rains it is impossible to get in. The reporter also had to ride a motorbike and climb for more than 1 hour to reach the column location.
Photojournalist Huy Hung.
"There are many locations where we often report on construction sites at night, such as location 340, package 36, in Nam Thanh commune, Nam Dan district, Nghe An province, when the clock has struck 11 p.m. While people are asleep, under the high-voltage electric light at the construction site, 3 excavators and dozens of workers are still working hard on digging foundations, tying steel and pouring concrete for the foundation. It is a "race", a race to success", reporter Huy Hung was moved.
Despite the hardships and difficulties, the workers with their faces darkened by rain and sun still exude confidence and love of life. The moment a construction worker pulled the wire in the sunset at pole 181 of the Nam Dinh 1 - Pho Noi Thermal Power Plant line in Hung Ha district (Thai Binh) left photojournalist Huy Hung deeply moved.
All forces participating in the project join hands and unite with high determination. Because when the project is completed, it will carry a very important historical mission, which is to contribute to ensuring electricity supply for the North, which is facing the risk of electricity shortage. Electricity from the South and Central regions will "support" the North thanks to a transmission line with an investment scale of more than 22,300 billion, thanks to increasing the transmission capacity to the North from 2,200 MW to 5,000 MW. This is also an urgent requirement set by the Prime Minister in the context of high demand for electricity consumption when the economy has begun to recover, production and business investment activities have flourished again.
And the mission of photographers and journalists like Huy Hung is to bring realistic images, capture with their lenses the image of a rising Vietnam, arousing aspirations to contribute to the development of the country in the new era.
