According to the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, with nearly 10 million permanent residents and millions of tourists each year, Hanoi is one of the three localities with the largest consumption of agricultural products and food in the country. However, the output of some agricultural, forestry and fishery products in the city only meets 20-70% of the people's needs (depending on the type).
Hanoi must import the remaining amount from many provinces, cities and foreign countries. In the context of the year-end market, consumption may increase by 20-30%, so to proactively produce and balance the supply of goods, Hanoi should proactively build up its agricultural product sources early, avoiding local shortages and surpluses.
Specifically, Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Dinh Hoa said: based on weather developments, Hanoi proactively builds production scenarios. The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will soon issue a document assigning grassroots officials to closely coordinate with local authorities in disseminating and providing technical guidance on main crop care; strengthen the investigation, detection, estimation, and forecasting of the situation of harmful organisms, and provide timely and effective guidance on pest control.
In addition to proactive production, Hanoi cooperates with provinces and cities to supply safe agricultural products to the capital market, meeting consumer demand at the end of the year, ensuring product diversity and food quality.
Director of Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Dai said: In recent times, the city has directed departments and branches to implement many solutions to develop production, connect the supply of safe, high-quality agricultural products from provinces and cities to serve the capital's consumers and tourists. Up to now, Hanoi has signed cooperation agreements with 43 provinces and cities, developed 946 production - consumption - promotion chains of agricultural products, regional specialties; supported the circulation of goods...
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development regularly coordinates with departments, branches, districts, towns to update regulations and requirements for quality control on food safety for safe agricultural, forestry and fishery production and consumption chains, combined with strict management of product traceability...
Ready goods for Tet
Up to now, many agricultural supply chains have proactively linked up to bring goods to the capital market. Director of BigGreen Vietnam Clean Food Company Limited Nguyen Tien Hung said that BigGreen has dozens of clean food stores in Hanoi with about 1,000 types of products sold daily. Taking the initiative in year-end goods sources, Biggreen has signed consumption contracts with dozens of production facilities.
“At the end of the year, the demand for food will certainly increase sharply, so the store proactively signs contracts to import many specialty and OCOP products to supply to the people of the capital,” said Mr. Nguyen Tien Hung.
Not only enterprises and cooperatives, the industry, trade and agriculture sectors of Hanoi have also proactively signed and organized many fairs and booths to introduce agricultural products of provinces and cities to the people of the capital.
On the occasion of the upcoming Lunar New Year, the groups of goods and quantities that need to balance supply and demand include: rice, pork, chicken, duck, poultry eggs, processed foods, vegetables, tubers, sugar, cooking oil, spices, etc. The Hanoi People's Committee has assigned the Department of Industry and Trade to take the lead in gathering information, organizing and coordinating goods of units when the market fluctuates, ensuring to meet the needs of consumers.
Regarding the agricultural sector, Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Dai said: the production scenario has been built by the sector early and will be adjusted accordingly depending on the actual situation. Regarding agricultural products, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development coordinates with the Department of Industry and Trade and localities to forecast demand and develop plans to link, supply, and meet demand during Tet.
The agricultural sector also coordinated with other sectors and functional units to strengthen the survey of supply sources from Hanoi's chain stores. The whole city currently has 70,779 food production, processing and trading establishments, 453 markets, 137 supermarkets, 29 shopping malls, 2,000 convenience stores, 34 e-commerce platforms, multimedia sales channels and tens of thousands of grocery stores...
"With the initiative in production, proactively linking to build chains, especially chains linking with provinces and cities, this Tet, Hanoi will ensure a supply of good quality agricultural products to serve the people of the capital" - Director of Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Dai affirmed.
