Ho Chi Minh City University of Information Technology spent more than 10 billion VND to buy Nvidia's NVIDIA DGX A100 AI super server for teaching and research.

Dr. Nguyen Tan Tran Minh Khang, Vice Principal of the University of Information Technology, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, said on the morning of February 29 that this super server had arrived at the school after 9 months of negotiations with Nvidia Corporation, USA. The school is the first educational institution in Vietnam to own the NVIDIA DGX A100 AI super server from the world's largest chip company.

He said this superserver is a universal system for all AI infrastructure, from analytics, training to inference. The machine packs a high density of computers with AI processing performance up to 5 petaFLOPS in a 6U chassis, replacing an infrastructure tower with just one platform for all AI workloads. This is one of Nvidia's powerful superservers today.

According to Mr. Khang, NVIDIA DGX A100 will be applied in research and teaching in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and Information Technology. In addition, the school's 6,000 students in other fields can register to use the machine if there is a lecturer to guide them.

"The market price of this machine is about 15-17 billion VND, however the school negotiated and bought it at a lower price," said Dr. Khang. This is the most expensive device the school has ever purchased.

The Vice President added that the NVIDIA DGX A100 super server is a product of American scientific research and has some restrictions when exported out of the country. Therefore, it took the school a long time to negotiate before Nvidia agreed to provide it. In return, the school had to sign a commitment to use this super server within the Ho Chi Minh City National University and only for research and training purposes.

The funding for purchasing the super server comes from the Digital Transformation and Digital University Orientation project of the University of Information Technology, allocated by Ho Chi Minh City National University from the State budget.

Nvidia is currently the world's most valuable chip maker, with a market value of nearly $2 trillion. Nvidia's GPU graphics processors account for 80% of the global market share, giving the company a monopoly in this field.
