Tycoon related to Van Thinh Phat fined; CPI increases slightly

- The tycoon related to Van Thinh Phat was fined, his account was frozen.

Bong Sen Joint Stock Company - a company on the list of 762 companies related to Van Thinh Phat - has just been fined VND 92.5 million by the Securities Commission for violating information disclosure. Recently, Bong Sen announced information about a bond lot worth VND 4,800 billion issued on October 15, 2021 and expected to mature on October 15, 2026, with an interest rate of 10.5%/year. The company is late in paying more than VND 668 billion, including VND 150.5 billion in loan interest and VND 517.8 billion in penalty interest, the reason being that the company's account is frozen. The investigation agency is working on the contents of the bonds, including Bong Sen's bonds (according to Dan Tri).

- Tuition fees and rice prices push CPI up slightly

Data released by the General Statistics Office on October 29 showed that the CPI in October increased by 0.08% compared to the previous month. Compared to December 2022, the CPI in October increased by 3.2% and compared to the same period last year, it increased by 3.59%. Core inflation in October increased by 0.09% compared to the previous month, up 3.43% compared to the same period last year. According to the General Statistics Office, the reason for the CPI increase in October was due to increased education costs and rice prices. On average, in the first 10 months of 2023, core inflation increased by 4.38% compared to the same period in 2022, higher than the average CPI increase (up 3.2%). (See more)

- Nearly 132,000 new businesses established in 10 months

According to the General Statistics Office, in October 2023, the country had more than 15.4 thousand newly established enterprises. In the first 10 months of 2023, the country had 131.8 thousand newly registered enterprises. The total registered capital was nearly 1,212.6 trillion VND. The total number of registered employees was 880 thousand workers. In the past 10 months, the number of enterprises increased by 4.7%, the registered capital decreased by 12.1% and the number of workers increased by 5.4% compared to the same period last year (according to Lao Dong).

- There have been nearly 10 million international visitors to Vietnam.

According to information from the General Statistics Office, international visitors to Vietnam in October 2023 reached 1.1 million, an increase of 5.5% over the previous month and 2.3 times higher than the same period last year. In the first 10 months of 2023, international visitors to our country reached nearly 10 million, 4.2 times higher than the same period last year but still only 69% compared to the same period in 2019 (the year before the Covid-19 pandemic). Visitors to Vietnam still mainly come from Asia with more than 7.7 million visitors, followed by visitors from Europe with more than 1.2 million visitors and visitors from America with 747 thousand visitors (according to VTC News).

- Korean and Chinese tourists to Khanh Hoa increase sharply

In the first 10 months of this year, the number of international visitors to Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa increased many times compared to the same period last year. Of which, Korean and Chinese visitors accounted for the majority of the total number of international visitors to this locality (according to Tien Phong).

- Interbank overnight interest rates fell for the second consecutive session, down to below 2%

According to the latest data released by the State Bank, the average interbank VND interest rate at the overnight term (the main term accounts for 90% of the transaction value) in the session of October 26 decreased to 1.89% from 2.72% recorded in the previous session (October 25). This is the second consecutive decrease in overnight interest rates, after a sharp increase at the beginning of the week and reaching 2.82% in the session of October 24. Although it has cooled down significantly, the interbank overnight interest rate is still about 10 times higher than at the end of September and much higher than the interest rate mobilized at terms of less than 1 month of banks (0.1-0.5%/year) (according to Nhip Song Thi Truong).
