(Dan Tri) - To ensure the quality of agricultural products exported to the Chinese market, Lam Dong province authorities recommend that farmers do not use yellow O.
On March 10, in the face of China tightening control of heavy metal residues and Auramine O (a colorant used in industry) in durian, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province requested that authorities strengthen management to ensure product quality.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province requested the People's Committees of districts and cities to closely inspect and monitor the residue of heavy metals Cadmium (Cd) and Lead (Pb) on durian; propagate and recommend people to limit the use of fertilizers and pesticides containing Cadmium and Lead, as well as not to use yellow O in the process of processing and preserving durian.
People are also encouraged not to overuse fertilizers and pesticides in production to ensure product quality.
Recently, China has issued a regulation requiring durian from Vietnam and Thailand exported to this country to have a yellow O inspection certificate. During the import and export procedures, the Chinese side will take samples and inspect 100% of the shipments, only shipments without yellow O residue will be cleared.
Lam Dong province currently has more than 20,000 hectares of durian, with an output of nearly 124,000 tons. In 2024, the province exported more than 23,000 tons of fresh fruit to China and several other countries, with a total value of more than 100 million USD.
Durian has now risen to the position of "king of fruits" in Vietnam, joining the "billion dollar" agricultural product group with an export value of about 3.2 billion USD in 2024.
